The role
As a Senior Naval Architect, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This pivotal role blends technical leadership with team development, driving the delivery of complex naval architecture solutions across both in-service and future submarine platforms.
Day-to-day, you’ll drive technical direction, mentor a skilled team, and support the advancement of the UK submarine fleet. This is a unique opportunity to influence mission-critical capability in a dynamic, forward-thinking environment.
1. Lead and assure the technical quality of mooring and towing analysis outputs.
2. Build and maintain a high-performing team of suitably qualified and experienced personnel (SQEP).
3. Design and deliver targeted training to strengthen team capability.
4. Provide expert input to projects and support strategic decision-making.
5. Champion innovation and best practice in analysis methods and engineering tools.
This role is full time, hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements
Essential experience of the Senior Naval Architect
6. Effective leader and communicator with strong organisational skills.
7. Proven track record in managing complex technical tasks and delivering high-quality outcomes.
8. Analytical, proactive, and committed to continuous professional growth.
9. Skilled in dynamic modelling and analysis using Orcaflex or ANSYS AQWA.
10. Proficient in engineering tools including ANSYS, Excel, MathCAD, MATLAB, Rhino, and AutoCAD/Inventor.
Qualifications for the Senior Naval Architect
11. Degree (BSc, BEng, MSc, or MEng) in Naval Architecture, Marine Technology, Ship Science, or a related STEM discipline.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
