The Peer Support Worker role is an integral part of the team at the Leicestershire Recovery College. The Recovery College is a non-clinical and recovery focussed service that offers wellbeing courses and workshops across Leicester City, Leicestershire, and Rutland. Students at the college can be Mental Health Service Users, their Carers or Family Members and Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust staff members.

The role is a key part of the student support offer at the College. Peer Support is offered as part of these courses and workshops and in short term sessions with students (and their family members, carers and friends where appropriate). These short-term sessions can be for example, enrolment and learning plan sessions, or sessions that support recovery and wellbeing focussed around goals set by the student and peer support worker.

Please note for this role applicants will be considered who have completed and passed the Peer Support Training offered by IMROC.

Main duties of the job

An overview of the role of a Peer Support Worker can be found in the Job Description and Person Specification. As the Recovery College is a non-clinical service here is a summary of several of the duties and activities of a Peer Support Worker:

* Utilise appropriate recovery focussed models and techniques to support students of the Recovery College. This support can be as part of courses and workshops or in short term support sessions. Support a student to develop support needs, and associated action or plans as part of the Enrolment and Individual Learning Plan process.
* Involvement in designing, planning and delivering the syllabus and course content at the Recovery College, this includes tutoring, co-tutoring or supporting courses and workshops as part of the colleges termly prospectus.
* Representing the service users/students voice.
* Support people who experience mental health issues, their carers and the wider community to engage and with recovery-focussed courses and activities through peer support.
* Involvement in promoting college activities through various ways and forms.
* Making links and establishing good working relationships with local community services and organisations.
* Building a sound knowledge of services provided in an effort to signpost and share information with students.
* In the role signposting to support and advice for students and their family members and/or carers.
