Job Title: Mech Estimator / Cost Engineer
Location: Bristol
Pay: £45,000.00-£55,000.00 per year plus benefits.
Key Responsibilities Estimating & Cost Engineering
* Complete mechanical estimating for projects and workshop fabrication work from enquiry through to tender submission and project handover
* Carry out detailed take-offs from mechanical drawings and specifications (essential)
* Build and maintain labour and material costs using estimating software in line with company standards
* Develop comprehensive cost build-ups including:
o Workshop and site labour
o Materials, pipework, fittings and consumables
o Plant, equipment and logistics
o Subcontractors and specialist services
o Overheads and margins
* Review tender documentation to ensure full scope clarity, identifying risks, exclusions, assumptions and commercial exposure
* Maintain estimating templates, labour norms and cost benchmarks
Collaboration & Delivery Alignment
* Work closely with the Workshop Manager to ensure estimates reflect actual fabrication capacity, productivity and sequencing
* Collaborate with Project Managers and the Commercial team to align pricing with delivery methodology and site conditions
* Obtain competitive and compliant quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
* Support post-tender negotiations, value engineering and client clarifications
* Lead or support structured project handovers with clear scope and cost breakdowns
Commercial Control
* Protect margins through disciplined pricing and risk management
* Ensure all estimates are accurate, defendable and aligned with company commercial standards
* Support pipeline visibility and workload forecasting
* Ensure tenders are submitted accurately, professionally and on time
Tools & Systems
* Estimating software (e.g. EES or similar)
* Drawing/PDF review tools (e.g. Bluebeam or similar)
* Tender and pipeline management systems (e.g. Monday.com or similar)
* MS Teams / Outlook
* Excel (for analysis/reporting as required)
Essential Requirements
* Proven experience completing take-offs from mechanical drawings and specifications (non-negotiable)
* Experience within mechanical engineering, fabrication, pipework or construction environments
* Strong ability to interpret:
o Mechanical and GA drawings
o Fabrication details, schedules and specifications
* Experience building labour and material cost build-ups using estimating systems
* Commercially astute with disciplined margin control
* Organised and methodical, with the ability to work to deadlines
* Confident working independently and managing the estimating process end-to-end
Desirable (Not Essential)
* Experience within offsite fabrication or workshop-based estimating
* Knowledge of mechanical pipework systems (carbon steel, stainless steel, building services)
* Experience supporting post-tender negotiations and value engineering
* Familiarity with estimating system configuration, templates or benchmarking
