Student Support Manager (Further & Higher Education) Location: Access Creative College Plymouth Reporting to: Head of Campus Responsible for: Learner Service Advisor/ DBS staff Hours: 37.5 hours per week Salary: £33-£35K per annum About the Role To lead and coordinate all learner support services on campus, including safeguarding, wellbeing, exams, and learning support. This role combines strategic oversight with hands-on delivery of student interventions and support, ensuring compliance, inclusion, and high-quality learner experience across FE and HE contexts. We’re an Ofsted ‘Good’ provider that reach every corner of the country, with 7 campuses and over 2,500 students nationwide. We are part of Access Education Group which boasts 32 campuses nationwide with over 5,000 students & apprentices across ACC, dBs Institute (Higher Education) & Access Sport Duties & Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Management Lead and line-manage the Learner Services/Student Support Team, for both Higher and Further Education staff and freelance or agency staff (e.g. counsellors, mental health mentors). Manage support budgets, planning strategically with the Head of Campus to ensure effective resource allocation. Oversee the development and quality assurance of support provision across safeguarding, EHCP, DSA, and wellbeing services. Contribute to campus leadership teams and organisational strategic planning, data reporting, and policy development. Organise and deliver staff CPD relating to safeguarding, wellbeing, and inclusive teaching practices. Safeguarding & Pastoral Care Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the campus, overseeing compliance and case management. Deliver safeguarding training at staff and learner induction. Liaise with external agencies (e.g. social services, LAs, CAMHS) to coordinate timely interventions. Maintain accurate safeguarding and wellbeing records in accordance with data protection regulations. Learning Support, EHCP & DSA Coordination Manage EHCP admissions, annual reviews, and funding processes, including collaboration with local authorities and families across the FE provision. Oversee Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) support: sourcing assessors, ensuring NMH compliance, managing invoicing, and ILP production, across the HE provision. Ensure appropriate exam access arrangements and reasonable adjustments are in place. Complete and oversee ALS profiles and support plans in collaboration with curriculum and support teams. Coordinate assessments and access planning, ensuring inclusive and safe learning environments. Examinations & Compliance Act as campus Exams Officer, working closely with Exams Coordinators and external awarding bodies. Ensure all assessments and exams are delivered in line with regulatory standards, including Access Arrangements. Support audits, inspections, and quality assurance processes across safeguarding, support services, and exams. Reception & Operational Duties Support estates, facilities, and health & safety compliance, including PEEPs and risk assessments. Deliver general administrative tasks related to learner enrolment, attendance, and reporting. Student Wellbeing & Pastoral Support HE Provision Provide 1:1 support for students across a range of wellbeing and pastoral needs, including (but not limited to) mental health, emotional resilience, substance misuse, and personal challenges. Offer a supportive, non-judgemental space and make timely referrals to appropriate internal or external support services. Support students in maintaining their wellbeing and engagement with study, including conducting formal reviews under the Health & Wellbeing Policy where concerns arise. Contribute to the planning and delivery of student induction sessions, wellbeing workshops, campaigns, and events throughout the academic year. Maintain up-to-date wellbeing, support, and safeguarding information across the Student Hub and other relevant platforms. Collaborate with academic staff to plan and deliver study support sessions that enhance academic and study skills across the student body. Represent student support services at Open Days and other student recruitment events, offering guidance to prospective students on available support. 7. Data, Monitoring & Continuous Improvement HE Provision Monitor and analyse data relating to safeguarding, wellbeing, and learning support to identify trends, evaluate impact, and inform continuous improvement. Work in collaboration with the Head of Campus and Institute-wide Student Support Teams to deliver, assess, and review the effectiveness of student support services. Report key data and insights to internal committees and contribute to institutional reporting requirements, including those for our validating partner, Falmouth University. Maintain current knowledge of sector best practice in higher education student support and recommend improvements where appropriate. Engage in ongoing personal and professional development to ensure effective, compliant performance in the role. Ensure adherence to all relevant dBs Institute and Falmouth University policies and procedures relating to student support, safeguarding, and disability provision. 8.
