The Role
Required: live NMC UK pin.
Band 5 nurse within the Endoscopy Unit at Royal Alexandra Hospital. The Post Holder will provide specialist care to Endoscopy patients and day‑case surgical procedures. The successful candidate will work in both Day Surgery and Endoscopy teams, providing patient‑centred care. Applicants should be enthusiastic, motivated, and interested in the endoscopy environment. Previous experience is desirable but not essential.
The role is a fixed‑term contract for 9 months, Monday through Friday 08:00–17:30. Flexibility to work within a five‑day week and engage in multi‑site working across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde may be required.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver high‑quality, person‑centred care by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating evidence‑based nursing care for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures, with sensitivity to individual needs, culture and lifestyle.
* Provide safe and effective clinical practice within NMC, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, and Health & Safety legislation, ensuring patient safety, dignity and wellbeing throughout admission, procedure, recovery and discharge.
* Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team, demonstrating flexibility to rotate across endoscopy rooms, theatre and recovery areas, and supporting service delivery across the wider Day Surgery Unit as required.
* Communicate with empathy and professionalism, offering reassurance and information to patients and relatives, while maintaining effective verbal and written communication with colleagues and accurate clinical records.
* Demonstrate leadership and accountability by supervising and supporting registered and non‑registered staff, contributing to team coordination, resource management and upholding nursing practice standards.
* Commit to continuous professional development, contributing to education, audit and practice development, supporting learners, participating in appraisal and maintaining clinical competence.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
* Registered Adult Nurse (RN) with current NMC registration, able to meet all professional, legal and ethical requirements of the role.
* Sound clinical knowledge and skills appropriate to Band 5 practice, able to deliver safe, effective and person‑centred care within an endoscopy or day surgery environment.
* Previous experience in endoscopy or day surgery is desirable, with understanding of caring for patients undergoing procedural or invasive investigations.
* Knowledge of NHS, Health & Safety, infection prevention and clinical governance standards, with ability to work in line with national and local policies and procedures.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development, including participation in appraisal, education, audit and practice development activities.
* Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating flexibility, professionalism and capacity to support colleagues and learners in a busy clinical setting.
