Senior Support Worker's Duties
You will be responsible supporting the Short Breaks Registered Manager for the day-to-day operational running of a RQIA registered short breaks residential service, ensuring that all service users' care and support needs are being met, and that we have processes in place to support our service users to enrich their lives.
You will be accountable for the work and actions of your team members, and it will be your role to help them deliver a top-class service. Support the Manager in delivering our strategic planning for the service and align practice with Mainstay's purpose, values, and strategic priorities.
Service users – As a Senior Support Worker you will be responsible for providing a needs and outcome-led service to adults with a learning disability by adopting a person-centred approach that fosters self-awareness, personal growth and ensures each person has their voice heard with regards to decision making and lifestyle choices. You will support your team to look at service users' abilities and possibilities, while delivering their care needs. Working alongside stakeholders to create and review person centred care plans. Ensuring care plans, support plans, and risk assessments are reviewed regularly and updated with any change of need in line with our outcome-focused, co-produced approach.
You will encourage participation in meaningful day opportunities, community involvement, and innovative initiatives such as social enterprise projects and volunteering, aligned with Mainstay's short-, medium-, and long-term goals.
Team members – You will provide leadership to the team acting as a positive role model at all times. Manage rotas daily and address any issues with the rotas and shift cover. Motivate, support and mentor team members, support them in the growth of their role, carry out quarterly supervision meetings, set personal development objectives and provide information to the Service Manager to carry out yearly appraisals.
You will also ensure the team are following the RQIA residential standards and NISCC code of conduct. To work alongside staff on shift when required and will be a practise leader.
Ensure team members are trained in all essential training required, ensure training remains in date and arrange/lead training when needed.
Manage conflict, absence and other staffing issues according to the organisations policies and procedures.
You will also contribute to staff personal development plans, values-based training, mentoring, reflective practice sessions, and the Aspiring Leadership programme, in line with our "learning organisation" priority.
Environment – You will be responsible to ensure that all services/properties are of a high standard, you follow up on reported repairs & maintenance issues with the correct person and address any issues that need attention within the service.
You will create a culture of a good working and living environment by ensuring your team all work & grow together to deliver the highest standard of care and support to our service users and by fostering a sense of community, belonging, and shared purpose.
Standards required – You will be required to complete all necessary paperwork to an acceptable standard, ensure that all policies and processes are followed. Carry out weekly and monthly audits on paperwork, log my care notes and on other systems that are in place. Ensure work is recorded accurately and appropriately in compliance with the company requirements and that records made, and personal information used are in compliance with the correct legislation and support Mainstay's governance standards of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
Supporting the Mainstay Management team
ü This includes contributing to strategic initiatives such as staff-led innovation funds, stakeholder forums, carer support workshops, and public engagement events.
ü To work within a management team for the entire organisation which includes be part of an on-call rota.
ü Regularly reviewing and updating care plans, attend yearly reviews and working alongside outside agencies.
ü Building relationships with parents, carers and other professionals in relation to the support provided to each person.
ü Ensure the health needs of each Client is documented and staff have the skills and competencies to support those needs including behaviour that may challenge.
ü Ensuring continuous improvement within the service working closely with colleagues in quality and compliance.
ü Ensuring new staff receive a full induction and that each member of staff has a personal development plan.
ü Working in partnership with other colleagues within the charity to support positive outcomes
SENIOR SUPPORT WORKER:PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Criteria
1) Level 3 in Health & Social Care (Adults) or equivalent
2) Over three years in a position working alongside adults with severe and complex learning disabilities or three years' experience of working with a vulnerable client group or individual
3) Experience in a role requiring the leading of a shift and supervising (can be a paid or voluntary role)
4) The ability to demonstrate excellent ICT Skills
5) Full UK driving licence with access to a suitable vehicle (appropriately maintained and insured for business purposes), or access to another suitable form of transport that enables the successful candidate to meet the requirements of the role
6) Must be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC)
Desirable:
1) Commitment to completing NVQ Level 5 in Leadership and Management within 1 years of appointment.
