Job Title: Teaching Assistant

Leader Education are looking to hire a Teaching Assistant to join a supportive alternative provision in Gateshead.
In this role, you will work closely with students from Year 7 to Year 11 who are no longer in mainstream education due to social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, behavioural challenges, or additional and sometimes unidentified special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Your support will be key in helping these young people re-engage with learning, rebuild their confidence, and develop both academically and personally.
The provision places a strong emphasis on student wellbeing, offering access to in-house mental health support.
With a clear focus on positive outcomes, the team is dedicated to supporting students in successfully reintegrating into mainstream education where possible, or guiding them towards alternative pathways that align with their individual strengths and long-term aspirations.
The normal working pattern is Monday-Friday 8:30 until 15:30 and is a long-term position.

The successful candidate will:
* Have a fully enhanced DBS on the update service or a willingness to obtain one
* Be able to work alongside pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
* Work with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in a group setting, communicating effectively
* Work effectively with parents, carers, and other members of multidisciplinary teams to provide the best support
* Be flexible and resilient
* Possess communication skills that can be personalised to suit students of different abilities
* Possess good classroom skills
