LEGO Digital Play will bring the LEGO brand into digital entertainment in new, innovative, and wholly-owned ways. Our mission is to ensure the LEGO Brand remains as powerfully a part of children’s lives in the coming decades as it has ever been. We aim to reach every kid on the planet, their parents, and adult fans of LEGO—and provide them with meaningful, magical, and playful new experiences. We are at the earliest phases of this new company, offering a unique opportunity to build a new entity for the world's most beloved and trusted brand. Our culture is open, collaborative, intellectually rigorous, and creatively vibrant. LEGO Digital Play is building a proprietary, brand-aligned development platform that will bring the LEGO Brand to life and deliver a trusted foundation for internal and external developers to build on. The Expert Builder is the in-house authority on building with LEGO elements as a digital medium. You will define what good looks like across digital LEGO modelling, from full interactive worlds down to sub-element detail, and you will encode the rules, conventions, and behaviours that make a build authentic to the LEGO Brand Standards. You will create reference models, review and sign off work produced by internal and external teams, and translate deep craft knowledge into style guides, specifications, and tooling requirements that engineers and artists can act on. Reporting to the Head of Developer Platform, you will sit within Central Technology and partner closely with game teams, both internal and external, as your customers. You will mentor 3D artists from games and CG/film backgrounds who fluently use LEGO bricks, elements and sets as a medium, and you will work shoulder-to-shoulder with platform engineers to shape the validation services, asset standards, and authoring tools that will scale this craft across the company. This is a first-of-kind role. You will help define the canon for digital LEGO building at LDP and set the standard the rest of the platform builds around. Key Responsibilities Create, review, edit, and sign off LEGO models at every scale, from whole interactive worlds down to individual element detail, ensuring brand and build integrity. Encode the legal LEGO build rules and element behaviors into clear, usable specifications that engineers can implement in validation services and authoring tools. Author and maintain style guides, modelling conventions, and reference libraries that internal and external teams can build against. Mentor and advise 3D artists from games and CG/film backgrounds on how to work effectively in LEGO as a medium, raising craft standards across partner studios. Partner with platform engineers on requirements gathering for SDKs, asset pipelines, and validation tooling, translating builder craft into technical specifications. Work directly with internal and external game teams as your customers, reviewing their work, unblocking modelling decisions, and feeding learnings back into platform standards. Contribute to brand integrity and IP controls by ensuring the digital expression of LEGO elements stays true to the physical system. Support the wider Central Technology team on asset reviews, ad-hoc modelling tasks, and onboarding of new partners onto the platform. Strong written communication, with a track record of producing style guides, specifications, or modelling standards that other people have used. Ability to gather requirements from engineering and product partners and translate craft knowledge into technical specifications Hands-on credibility across modelling at multiple scales, from world-building down to sub-element detail. Sound judgement on brand integrity, IP, and build authenticity, with the confidence to sign off or push back on work.
