Job Opportunity: Financial Controller (12 Month Contract)

Are you an experienced finance professional looking to make a tangible difference in the third sector? We're looking for a talented Financial Controller to join a values-led organisation committed to creating positive change in communities across Scotland.
The Role
As Financial Controller, you will lead the financial operations of the organisation during a period of maternity cover. This pivotal role involves responsibility for the charity's financial statements, external audit, statutory reporting, and day-to-day finance function management.
Working closely with the Finance Director and Senior Leadership Team, you'll help shape strategic financial decisions, ensure strong governance, and support sustainability. You'll also lead a small team and champion best practice in financial management across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, and the external audit process
2. Oversee day-to-day financial operations, payroll, and internal controls
3. Deliver timely and accurate financial reports, including management accounts and cash flow
4. Ensure compliance with statutory requirements (Charity SORP, FRS 102, OSCR)
5. Manage financial risks and promote sustainable, ethical financial practices
6. Monitor grant funding, restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting
7. Lead and develop the finance team and promote financial understanding across departments
About You
We're looking for a proactive and values-aligned finance leader with:
- Full accountancy qualification (CA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Significant experience in a senior finance role, ideally within the charity or non-profit sector
- Strong knowledge of charity governance, SORP, and FRS 102
- Demonstrated leadership in managing audits and financial reporting processes
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
- A collaborative approach to team leadership and cross-departmental work
