My client is an established national landscape maintenance service provider. They deliver their services via a network of 46 franchise businesses throughout the UK, supplying grounds maintenance and associated services to a wide client base. I am currently working in collaboration with them to appoint a Midlands-based Business Development Manager. This is an interesting and exciting role with the purpose of acting as the link between franchise business owners (turnovers from £150k for a newly appointed franchise to £3m for an established one) and Head Office, to ensure they are all operating their businesses appropriately. The role takes a holistic approach to the business, and the main duties include supporting the continued growth and business development of the franchisee network across the Midlands region, working alongside a team of BDMs to assist in the day-to-day business development and management of the franchisees. The role involves analysing sales processes and financial performance to advise, motivate, and train franchise owners and their staff to grow their businesses, including monitoring KPIs, producing accurate reports and plans, and ensuring timely submission of these reports to the wider business. The main duties are detailed below (this is not an exhaustive list):
1. Business coaching to develop and maximise opportunities within each franchise.
2. Analysis of trading situations to understand franchisee profits and margins.
3. Identifying barriers to business growth.
4. Developing strategies to achieve business growth and increased profitability.
5. Monitoring and ensuring plans are followed.
6. Maximising profitability by working with their business to improve efficiency.
7. Providing advice, guidance, and information professionally when dealing with issues.
8. Setting, developing, and monitoring sales, growth, and customer service in accordance with the Franchise Agreement and Operations Manual.
9. Providing/supporting training and support on-site and at Head Office as required.
10. Supporting local and regional sales activities, including planning, prospecting, and pricing.
11. Helping prepare franchisees for appointments and tenders with prospective customers.
12. Providing training on in-house systems to promote efficiency and productivity.
13. Ensuring franchisees comply with company standards and policies.
14. Demonstrating a deep understanding of the franchisee/franchisor relationship.
15. Sharing best practices and contributing to continuous improvement within the business and the wider BDM community.
16. Collaborating proactively with other team members in Key Accounts.
17. Experience in tendering, finance, and compliance.
18. Providing updated reports to Senior Management and highlighting areas of concern.
19. Onboarding new franchisees into the network in line with our standard operating model.
20. Having a working knowledge of Health and Safety practices.
21. Promoting company policies and good practices positively.
