Job Title: Shift Engineer–Electrical and Mechanical

Reports to Facilities&Engineering Manager. This role requires a proactive maintenance engineer to ensure machinery, plant, equipment and site infrastructure are safe, compliant and operating at high performance.


Responsibilities

* Maintain plant, machinery and equipment to ensure 100% availability while meeting production demands.
* Control daily maintenance activities and machine set‑ups, including troubleshooting breakdowns and performing preventive maintenance.
* Keep detailed maintenance logs and records within the electronic asset management system.
* Execute work to the highest standards in a clean, orderly manner across the site.
* Develop knowledge of primary packaging equipment and processes, and support manufacturing schedules in collaboration with other departments.
* Troubleshoot operational and process conditions, providing rapid on‑site responses to minimise downtime.
* Apply knowledge of instrumentation and mechanical systems (controllers, indicators, valves, sensors, pumps) and electrical circuits and installations.
* Promote a safety‑first culture in compliance with Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) regulations.
* Train and explain processes to colleagues, ensuring adherence to cGMP, environmental health and safety standards and other applicable regulations.
* Perform maintenance in low‑risk, high‑care and high‑risk environments following technical procedures and Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP).
* Ensure all machinery and equipment comply with Health and Safety (H&S) regulations and enforce Safe Systems of Work.
* Maintain spare parts inventory and keep stock levels appropriate.
* Liaise with external maintenance contractors, confirming GMP and HSE standards are met.
* Assist the Facilities&Engineering Manager in evaluating new machinery or equipment for suitability and cost.
* Work with development teams to assess changes to plant machinery, improving quality, scope and profitability.
* Conduct regular site checks (plant rooms, site structures, car parks and landscape) to identify damage and report repair needs.
* Inspect industrial plant and service utilities, coordinating with suppliers and contract engineers as required.
* Adhere to H&S policy, procedures and targets, driving continuous improvement in those areas.
* Provide clear reporting and communication between Production, Engineering and Management.
* Perform any other duties that may reasonably be requested to meet business needs.
* Represent the company positively in a professional manner at all times.


Essential Qualifications

* Minimum 3years engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
* Relevant HNC/ONC qualification with adequate experience.
* Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge, including PLC, refrigeration, control voltages and 3‑phase distribution.
* Formal engineering qualification to NVQ Level3 or higher in an electrical or mechanical subject.
* PC‑literate with competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and electronic asset management.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Solid understanding of Health & Safety.
* Flexible, team‑player, capable of working with minimal supervision.
* Good organisational and time‑management skills, meeting deadlines.


Desirable Qualifications

* Experience in a CGMP manufacturing environment.
* Experience setting and maintaining blister and bottle line packaging equipment.
* Experience handling serialisation equipment.
* Understanding of BMS and HVAC systems and operation.
* Forklift/MEWP licence.

* Comfortable working in factory, office and outdoor environments.
* Shift work and acting as site key‑holder for opening and closing.
