About the Role Are you ready to shape the future of nuclear energy in the UK? At EDF, we’re not just building power stations, we’re building careers, communities, and a cleaner future. If you’re passionate about quality, improvement, and making a real impact, this is your chance to lead on one of the UK’s most ambitious infrastructure projects and help Britain reach Net Zero. The Opportunity We are looking for technical leaders to join our nuclear energy business working within the HPC Technical Directorate. You will be at the heart of a challenging technical design, manufacturing, construction and commissioning programme, driving technical solutions across many areas of the organisation and across multiple countries. The Technical Directorate’s mission is to deliver a compliant, buildable and operable design on time and on budget, relying on experience feedback from the EPR family as well as global New Nuclear engineering practices. The role of the Nuclear Island Area Engineering Delivery Team (NI-AEDT) is a naturally evolving one over the life of the station. From design and conception, through to commissioning and commercial operation we lead the end-to-end engineering of the power station. We are therefore incentivised to develop high-performing people to ensure we can provide this leadership and support the success of the project. If you’re looking to develop as an authority in your area and prove yourself as an agent for change then this is the team for you. The current and future success of the NI-AEDT lies firmly in its investment in people. We recognise the unique capabilities of each individual and the value in diverse views and opinions. We encourage agility to further stretch your development potential; transferring knowledge and capabilities from one area to another helps us better work together for the benefit of nuclear safety and the future of our industry. Pay, Benefits & Culture The salary associated with this role is competitive, we offer a competitive benefits package, including a company pension scheme, and a wide range of flexible benefits to suit your lifestyle. We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans. At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated. Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ, those with a disability and supporting social mobility. We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments. We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal. What You’ll Be Doing Drive convergence of cross-functional I&C technical issues among stakeholders, achieving a best-for-project solution with a schedule and cost-conscious approach. Ensure strong networks and connections are built with numerous stakeholders within the area, I&C Programme, the RD and Nuclear Services. Provide a decisive escalation route for issues which are deadlocked and a vehicle for innovative optioneering. Work with the programmes and the technical teams on prioritisation and emerging scope topics, maximising the efficiency and value of delivery. Ensure an active risk management - putting in place mitigation plans and working with the technical and programme teams to bring an issue back under control. Keep up to date risk tracking. Specific risk management - Bring issues back under control when they start to escalate Advocate for pragmatic decision making which respects the overall aims of the project. Manage the provision of engineering services for HPC project through the Nuclear Services internal contract, achieving suitable technical outcomes with a focus on value engineering and optimisation. Provide the technical support to manage the contractual Early Warnings raised by the Responsible Designer in their area (and raise them when appropriate) and actively participate in risk reduction meeting to mitigate the issues. Support the Plant Configuration team in ensuring properly configured I&C Systems are delivered to meet site needs. Interface with Commissioning and Pre-Operations teams to ensure I&C Systems are delivered to meet their needs. Produce high-quality reporting for weekly escalations and monthly boards. The NI-AEDT is small and agile, so each EL is expected to cover a diverse topical area. To do this, you will need to build rapport quickly with wide network of stakeholders and attend an array of meetings to ensure you stay fully in touch across the project. You will take on emerging or entrenched risks and issues, establishing frameworks and small project structures with a focus on pragmatic decision making, delivering solutions and mitigation of issues/blockers. You will strive for simplification and clarity, driving the best decisions in support of the HPC project. You will contribute to the overall project risk understanding by engaging with area, programme and technical teams, recognising that differing priorities lead to a different understanding of risk. You will seek to balance conflicting priorities to produce a risk picture which supports decision making and improves visibility of the ongoing challenges. As the role is area and delivery focused, you must have the flexibility to work across very diverse technical areas, including ones outside your usual area of expertise. You will be able to quickly pick up new topics and learn through doing, actively listening to the multi-disciplinary team and positioning yourself to maximise impact. You will provide clear technical and process guidance and advice on a diverse array of topics. Who You Are You will bring experience in the nuclear industry, preferably with some experience of building nuclear power plant but also being able to demonstrate familiarity with safety cases and regulatory frameworks. Proficiency with I&C disciplines is required, across the lifecycle through specification, programming, V&V and safety case, emphasising your ability to collaborate with experts. Demonstrate your relevant experience across HPC-specific I&C systems, such as Siemens T2000, Framatome TXS and UNICORN as well as others. Demonstrate your capacity to lead technical and commercial discussions, managing substantial budgets while maintaining a strong technical perspective. Highlight your involvement across the entire project lifecycle for complex EPC projects, including design, construction, commissioning, and ideally operations. Prioritise delivery excellence in your approach to projects, underscoring your commitment to achieving results. Illustrate your adeptness in communicating at multiple levels of an organisation and navigating multi-cultural environments within major projects and organisations. Fluent English proficiency is a must. Proficiency in French can be advantageous for effective communication although it is not a requirement. Hold a relevant degree in engineering, preferably electrical or electronic engineering. Closing date for applications is Sunday November 2nd, and interviews will follow shortly after. To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Clearance (SC) which will, ordinarily, require you to have British residency for the last 5 years.
