Job summary: An exciting opportunity to join Priestners Unit-8 bedded female Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit at Atherleigh Park Hospital, Leigh. Priestner's Unit provides assessment, treatment and support to working age adult service users experiencing severe mental health illness, including conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression and anxiety. We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated and compassionate individuals who have a positive attitude towards mental health and promoting recovery, understand positive behavioural support, are committed to delivering person-centred and trauma-informed care, and want to support working age adults in their recovery.
Location: Priestner s Unit, Atherleigh Park, Leigh, WN7 1YN, Greater Manchester.
Band/Salary: Band 6, £38,682 to £46,580 per year (pro rata).
Main duties and responsibilities
Deputy Ward Managers at Atherleigh Park are active members of the ward management team, responsible for supporting the Ward Manager in the operational management and leadership of the Ward. As a Deputy Ward Manager, responsibilities will include:
* Uphold the values of the ward, promoting openness, transparency and learning
* Supervision of junior staff
* Mentor to new staff and junior staff
* Oversee areas of clinical expertise such as medication management and physical health provision on the ward
* Support the Ward Manager with HR tasks such as return to work and sickness monitoring
* Accurate and timely clinical documentation
* Manage shifts as a nurse in charge
* Conduct thorough risk assessments and develop risk management plans to support incidents on the ward

* Registration with NMC

* Experience as a Band 5 RMN

Essential: RMN qualification; preparation for mentorship or willingness to work towards; substantial post-qualification experience with people with severe and enduring mental illness; knowledge of clinical risk assessment; knowledge of NMC standards; leadership experience in a large multi-disciplinary team; commitment to equal opportunities; ability to translate clinical risk into care plans; excellent written/verbal communication; ability to manage staff and develop nursing practice; ability to engage with service users and carers.
Desirable: post-registration mental health qualifications; clinical leadership development; supervision training; staff management experience.
