Contract Mechanical Engineer vacancy in Stafford
We’re seeking skilled and hands-on Mechanical Engineers to join a specialist Defence Engineering team supporting a wide range of Ground Support Equipment (GSE) for the UK Armed Forces. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a respected environment, contributing directly to the readiness and capability of military operations.

You’ll be part of a team responsible for the survey, inspection, refurbishment, and maintenance of complex mechanical systems used across defence platforms. The role involves fault-finding, repair, and engineering refurbishment within a workshop environment, ensuring all work meets strict industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Carry out inspection, survey, and mechanical repairs on a variety of ground support and mechanical equipment.
* Diagnose and fault-find across hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
* Support refurbishment and testing of military ground equipment.
* Ensure maintenance and documentation are completed in line with defence standards.
* Work collaboratively within a skilled team, ensuring high-quality, safe, and timely delivery of engineering outputs.
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Demonstrable experience in mechanical repair, inspection, or maintenance.
* Proficient in fault-finding and refurbishment of mechanical systems.
* Computer literate with good attention to detail.
* Hold (or be eligible for) EngTech registration in accordance with UK-SPEC standards.
* Qualified to Level 4 (advanced/higher apprenticeship) OR Level 3 with a recognised engineering apprenticeship and practical engineering experience.
Ideal Backgrounds Include:
* Ex-RAF (Trade Group 5)
* Experience within the primes or defence engineering environments.
* Background in automotive, marine, diesel, or hydraulic systems.
* Mechanical technicians or engineers experienced with vehicles, refuelling units, or ground machinery.
