Little Owls Nurseries offer a potential promotion opportunity for Level 3 childcare qualified staff with substantial leadership experience. About the Role
The Manager in Charge encourages, motivates and efficiently supports the deployment of a dynamic and diverse staff team to deliver high‑quality integrated education and care that meets the National Framework. They lead and provide a broad and balanced Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum in partnership with families, support the Children’s Centre Manager with financial management, and secure the building and resources as the Ofsted Person in Charge.
 * Support parents, carers and families in the successful admission and transition of their children.
 * Lead and ensure the effective operation of the policies and procedures for medication administration, including accurate recording and verification of drug sheets.
 * Lead and quality‑assure the process for reporting any suspicious or non‑accidental injury or reportable incident, ensuring compliance with Departmental Child Protection Procedures, Local Safeguarding Children Board procedures and Ofsted requirements.
 * Provide training and development opportunities for all staff, through meetings, appraisals, supervision and professional development in line with the aspirations of the Children’s Centre and Learning for Life Service.
 * Make day‑to‑day decisions regarding EYFFI (Early Years Funding for Inclusion) and EYPP (Early Years Pupil Premium) money and maximise income while minimising debt to support the centre’s financial sustainability.
You Will
 * Support parents, carers and families in the successful admission and transition of their children.
 * Lead and ensure the effective operation of the policies and procedures for medication administration, including accurate recording and verification of drug sheets.
 * Lead and quality‑assure the process for reporting any suspicious or non‑accidental injury or reportable incident, ensuring compliance with Departmental Child Protection Procedures, Local Safeguarding Children Board procedures and Ofsted requirements.
 * Assist the management in providing professional support to parents and outside agencies on issues relating to child protection.
 * Support the Children’s Centre Manager in the effective management of the budget in line with Leeds City Council financial regulations.
 * Take responsibility for ensuring the building is safe, secure and fit for purpose, including external security and evacuation support.
 * Maintain client confidentiality, liaise with relevant agencies and provide professional advice to parents and carers.
 * Conduct risk assessments, maintain inspection readiness and act as the named Person in Charge for Ofsted.
 * Provide appropriate training and development for staff and support the apprenticeship programme where required.
 * Participate in professional development and keep current with statutory frameworks and best practice.
About You
 * Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, senior management, other professionals and those using the Children’s Centre’s services, using ICT as appropriate.
 * Ability to lead a staff team, set long‑term goals, and ensure staff understand their roles and responsibilities, monitoring and evaluating progress using frameworks including one‑to‑ones, appraisals and the Improving Performance Policy.
 * Able to offer support to children and families in a culturally sensitive, positive and non‑judgemental way.
 * Experience of professional employment in a nursery environment, and of leading practice in Child Protection and SEN provision.
 * Knowledge of EYFS, Ofsted inspection framework, and relevant Childcare legislation.
 * Experience of training and supervising staff, managing budgets, and maintaining inspection readiness.
