Summary
An established automotive manufacturing business is seeking a Production Engineer to support the continuous improvement of production processes and introduce new technologies that enhance efficiency, quality, and productivity.
Acting as a key link between Engineering and Production, you will play an important role in improving manufacturing operations, supporting new product introduction, and driving process optimisation across the production environment.
Main Duties
Identify and resolve production bottlenecks to improve manufacturing efficiency.
Introduce new manufacturing processes, technologies, and products into production.
Drive productivity and quality improvements through process optimisation.
Support prototype builds, proof builds, and new product introduction activities.
Develop and maintain build instructions, process documentation, and production databases.
Investigate and resolve manufacturing issues through cross-department collaboration.
Contribute to value analysis and value engineering initiatives to reduce material and labour costs.
Candidate Criteria
Essential
Knowledge of lean principles and value analysis/value engineering.
Understanding of single-line manufacturing processes, production flow, takt time, and line balancing.
Familiarity with assembly, steel fabrication, electrical and hydraulic components.
Knowledge of health & safety regulations in manufacturing environments.
Experience undertaking time and method studies.
3+ years’ experience in a similar production engineering role.
Experience supporting new product introduction (NPI) and manufacturing process improvements.
Experience creating build instructions / SOPs.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Excel and SharePoint).
Experience in mechanical design and interpreting engineering drawings.
Minimum HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills.
Desirable
Experience in chassis manufacturing.
Familiarity with Prince2/APD project processes.
Experience using Solid Edge or similar CAD software.
Experience using time study software.
Degree in Engineering (Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical) or equivalent.
