Senior Software Engineer
Location: Edinburgh, Scotland - Hybrid
We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join an amazing team,
contributing across the full development lifecycle, from technical discovery and
architectural design to rapid prototyping, backlog refinement, development,
deployment, and operations.

The opportunity:
As Senior Software Engineer you will own work across the full development lifecycle - technical discovery, architecture, prototyping, development, deployment, and operations.
You'll tackle complex challenges, apply architectural patterns, and build scalable, impactful software. Your work will span crafting responsive frontends, integrating with performant backend services, and designing efficient databases.
You are detail-oriented, empathetic toward users, and adaptable across the stack from frontend and cloud computing to DevOps and data modeling.
Beyond code, you'll mentor developers, review contributions, drive knowledge-sharing, and explore new tools and practices to strengthen the team.
What you will do!
* Lead the design and development of full-stack web applications across the entire lifecycle.
* Drive platform innovation through technical discovery and architectural design.
* Manage projects and enhancements by breaking down tasks, estimating effort, and tracking progress.
* Own specific products and features, serving as the technical point of contact and engaging stakeholders to ensure customer needs are met.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align on technical strategies.
* Stay current on web, geospatial, cloud, AI, and data science trends, advocating adoption where valuable.
* Mentor junior developers, fostering growth, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
What you need!
* * 5+ years in software development, with a focus on full-stack web applications.
* Frontend expertise: HTML, CSS/SaSS, ES6, TypeScript, modern frameworks (Vue, React, Svelte) and testing tools (Jest, Mocha, Playwright).
* Backend expertise: Node.js, Python, relational, spatial, and document databases.
* Cloud experience: GCP (Cloud Storage, Functions, Run, Load Balancer, WAF, Firebase) or equivalent AWS/Azure.
* Strong DevOps skills: Docker, Linux, Terraform, GitHub Actions.
* Hands-on with serverless, REST APIs, and microservices.
* Solid grounding in secure software development practices
Bonus points!
* Experience with geospatial technologies and concepts, especially Earth Engine
* Familiarity with data science libraries like pandas. Geopandas, xArray, Plotly
* Experience with remote sensing data and building data processing pipelines
* Experience with Firebase Auth, Firestore
* Experience with AI Coding include GitHub CoPilot, Cursor, FirebaseStudio
* Ability to develop solution proposals and evaluate pros and cons
