Hampshire’s Libraries need enthusiasticand innovative Library TeamAssistants to join our busy and flexible teams.

Some recent initiatives in our libraries include Ukraine connection support, supporting people with death and bereavement and supporting literacy in the early years.
The Role:
Your role will be to provide a welcoming environment for all and support the already developing community hub concept in our libraries.
You will plan and deliver fun and engaging activities for children such as Rhymetime and Storytime as well as adult activities, this is a fundamental part of the role. You will work with a range of partners and signpost customers when required.
You will provide an excellent customer experience to everyone who visits our libraries, using effective communication skills in order to encourage people to explore our range of books and other available resources, download our apps for eMagazines and eBooks, take part in special promotions for adults and children, sign up for courses and events and support customers when using our IT facilities. In the role you will also be responsible for stock management and general administration.
You will have a good general education combined with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with agood standard of IT skills plus the ability to use your own initiative when required.
You will be required to travel between libraries or work at nearby libraries on a regular basis, so you'll need to fulfil specific travel requirements which will be outlined at interview.
A full induction and training programme will be provided.
What you’ll do:
Customer Care
* To provide effective customer service encouraging use of the full range of facilities available in Libraries to enhance customers’ experience and enjoyment of the services offered.
* To ensure productive two-way communication with customers, colleagues, managers, business and community partners and volunteers to enhance/improve service delivery.
Procedures and Processes
* To be responsible for following and completing defined operational procedures to provide the efficient delivery of services which comply with agreed standards.
* To routinely take charge of the building and day-to-day operation of the service in the absence of the manager, regularly in small/medium size sites and where appropriate, occasionally in larger libraries.
Stock
* To contribute effectively to the management of stock, working with colleagues in accordance with Stock Manual guidelines
Promotion of services
* To plan, deliver and evaluate activities from learning to recreation.
* To promote the range of library services on offer to all customers including vulnerable individuals and groups, children, adults and older customers.
Administration
* To complete a range of clerical and administrative duties including cash handling, telephone calls and the use of the library management system to support processes for stock management and library membership.
Corporate and statutory initiatives
* To maintain an awareness of and comply with HCC and departmental procedures and policies and apply them to the day-to-day operation in order to ensure the service meets its legal and statutory obligations.
* Comply with local health and safety arrangements, including assistance with building evacuation.
What we’re looking for:
* Good general education (GCSEs or equivalent)
* Experience of working with the general public in paid or voluntary work Interpersonal skills
* Ability to communicate clearly in writing and orally
* Ability to work under pressure
* IT skills allowing use of Library Management Systems, SAP and ability to support customers with printing etc.
* Ability to cope with physical element of the job
* Ability to work alone and unsupervised
* Ability to process payments according to procedures
* Use of all equipment (e.g. library management system, telephone system, public IT)
