The UK’s strategy to deliver Net Zero is driving a transformation in the energy sectors. They are responsible for 24% of UK greenhouse gas emissions and must fully decarbonise by 2050 while expanding electricity production. Rapid transition to sustainable sources is essential to meet energy security and environmental goals.
We are recruiting a fixed‑term (up to 2 years) Senior Energy Advisor to support regulation and development across combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries. The role involves technical leadership, strategy development, stakeholder engagement and incident response.
Responsibilities
 * Provide expert support, technical leadership and training to internal and external stakeholders.
 * Develop regulatory strategy for the energy sector and produce tools that support development and environmental outcomes.
 * Commission and manage external research projects as required.
 * Collaborate with Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other industry players.
 * Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during emergencies.
Qualifications & Skills
 * Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge of combustion and energy sectors, including control measures for air emissions.
 * Experience working within or regulating the energy sector, demonstrated through previous roles or projects.
 * Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
 * Strong teamwork and communication skills, with a record of collaborating successfully to achieve common goals.
 * Demonstrated ability to work effectively across diverse cultural backgrounds and encourage consideration of diversity issues.
