Position
The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust seeks to appoint two Locum Fixed Term Consultants in Plastic Surgery for a 12‑month contract in the Musculoskeletal & Specialist Surgery Clinical Management Group (MSS CMG). Services are based at Leicester Royal Infirmary, Northampton General Hospital and Kettering General Hospital, with on‑call provision at Leicester Royal Infirmary.
Key Responsibilities
* Cover colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absences where job plans allow.
* Participate in service development and business planning in collaboration with other Consultants, management, CMG, local GP’s and commissioners within the CCG’s.
* Provide professional supervision and management of junior medical staff, observing local employment and human resource policies and procedures.
* Carry out teaching, examination and accreditation duties; contribute to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education locally and nationally.
* Respond in a timely manner to legitimate requests from Trust officers, including investigations into incidents or complaints.
* Engage in professional continuing medical education; study leave provided.
* Support emergency admissions or day attenders during office hours.
* Act as point of escalation for junior doctors requiring senior/Consultant advice.
* Provide Consultant Plastic Surgery services through outpatient clinics, outpatient procedure lists, theatre lists, day case and inpatient care, and peripheral activity including UHL in community sites and St Peters Health Centre.
* Work flexibly and cooperatively with other consultant surgeons to maximise utilisation of outpatient and inpatient lists.
* Commit to an on‑call rotation of 1:6 – 1:8, including weekends and bank holidays.
Qualifications
* Fellowship training and/or substantial experience in microsurgery, breast reconstruction, skin cancer management (including sentinel lymph node biopsy), and hand trauma.
* Experienced in microsurgery, breast reconstruction, skin cancer management (including sentinel lymph node biopsy), and hand trauma.
* Fellowship training in one or more of these areas is highly desirable.
* Continuing professional development and revalidation through annual appraisal and statutory & mandatory training.
* Completed Trust Corporate and Directorate specific induction and competency programmes appropriate to role.
* Ability to work within the Musculoskeletal & Specialist Surgery Clinical Management Group and across UHL & UHN sites.
