Job Description:
We are currently recruiting for a Youth Justice Practitioner. The successful candidates will be required to start once the vetting paperwork and ANI are completed.
Duration: 4 months
Hours of work: Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm, with evening work which may be offset by Time off in lieu. Flexi working including evenings.
Rate of pay: £16.45 per hour
Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver early-stage diversion services to children and young people on the fringes of the criminal justice system.
2. Manage, supervise, and deliver PPS plans, court order, and bail supervision plans to ensure statutory requirements are met.
3. Assess needs and manage risks appropriately, promoting restorative practices, rehabilitation, reintegration, resilience, and desistance.
4. Operate within the guidelines of the YJA as directed by YJA middle management.
5. Deliver effective social work and youth work services across the continuum of intervention from early stages to supervision upon release from custody.
6. Facilitate youth engagement clinics in partnership with PSNI and PPS to ensure suitable children and young people are exited from the criminal justice system at the earliest opportunity and are aware of diversionary options.
7. Deliver community resolution notice programmes to young people referred by PSNI.
8. Undertake assessments, including YJA assessments, to develop holistic, tailored intervention plans.
9. Work closely with victims to ensure their views are heard and they are engaged in the process if they wish to be.
10. Ensure intervention plans are informed by assessments and outcomes of youth conferences, with regular review and evaluation.
11. Partner with young people, families, communities, and professionals to support positive behavior change and reduce offending.
12. Establish multi-agency and community networks to deliver interventions and support reintegration.
13. Source, assess, and manage appropriate reparative activity placements to meet community service requirements.
14. Participate in case conferences, reviews, and relevant meetings, preparing reports as needed.
15. Maintain accurate records in accordance with YJA policies.
16. Support volunteers, social work, and youth work students and sessional workers through training and supervision.
17. Promote and deliver restorative approaches outside youth conferences, considering victims' views.
18. Serve as an Officer of the Court, providing high-quality reports and bail assessments.
19. Collaborate with colleagues in the Juvenile Justice Centre to provide seamless services for young people in custody and contribute to release planning.
20. Participate in supervision, team meetings, training, and staff development.
Essential Criteria:
* Degree in Social Work or Youth and Community Work (must be one of these two degrees).
* Experience working with young people displaying challenging behavior.
* Experience in writing formal reports.
* Driving license and access to transportation to fulfill job responsibilities.
