Job Purpose
The Production Supervisor is responsible for planning, scheduling and overseeing all production activities on the factory floor to ensure work is completed safely, on time, to the required quality standard, and in line with customer expectations.
They will act as the primary authority on the shop floor, maintaining discipline, enforcing company policies, and driving productivity and accountability across all departments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Planning & Scheduling using MIE MRP software
Plan, prioritise and schedule all factory work to meet delivery deadlines.
Allocate labour and resources efficiently across welding, fabrication, laser, press brake, finishing and dispatch by filling in white boards.
Monitor workflow and adjust schedules to address bottlenecks or urgent customer requirements.
Ensure materials, drawings and specifications are available before work commences.
Liaise with CAD and procurement to ensure production readiness.
2. Shop Floor Leadership & Supervision
Act as the senior authority on the factory floor.
Lead by example in work ethic, standards and behaviour.
Enforce company policies, procedures and health & safety regulations.
Ensure housekeeping and 5S standards are maintained.
Drive productivity, efficiency and continuous improvement.
Conduct regular walk-arounds and production reviews throughout the day.
3. Discipline & People Management
Act as first point of contact for shop floor conduct and performance issues.
Manage timekeeping, attendance and productivity standards.
Carry out informal and formal disciplinary procedures in line with company policy.
Support training, development and skills improvement across the team.
Conduct return-to-work discussions and performance reviews where required.
4. Customer Liaison
Act as a key production contact for customers regarding lead times and delivery updates.
Communicate production progress clearly and professionally.
Manage customer expectations where schedules change.
Support Directors with production-related customer meetings if required.
5. Quality & Compliance
Ensure work is completed in line with ISO9001 quality standards.
Support compliance with ISO14001 environmental procedures.
Ensure all work meets drawing and specification requirements before dispatch.
Promote right-first-time manufacturing and reduce rework.
6. Health & Safety
Ensure safe working practices are always followed.
Conduct risk awareness checks and enforce PPE compliance.
Report and investigate accidents, near misses and unsafe conditions.

Essential Requirements
Strong background in sheet metal fabrication and manufacturing processes.
Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a manufacturing environment.
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
Strong planning and organisational skills.
Confident and authoritative communicator.
Ability to manage discipline fairly and consistently.
Good IT skills (production planning MRP Software, Excel, email).
