Clinical Research Fellow Gynaecological Oncology

Department of Gynaecological Oncology, Northern Gynaecological Oncology Centre, (NGOC)

Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust,Tyne & Wear.

This is an exciting opportunity for motivated individuals, interested in pursuing careers in Gynaecological Oncology to join a reputable and established team of clinicians and researchers. Based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead, the Northern Gynaecological Oncology Centre (NGOC) offers experience in developing extensive clinical and specialised surgical skills, in addition to pursuit of clinical research. NGOC offers a broad range of surgery, and is famed for its ultra-radical surgical repertoire, and early adoption of innovation. It is a European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) accredited Centre of Excellence for Ovarian Cancer.

This post is for 12 months initially and is extendable depending on the research project. The successful applicant will be given the opportunity to lead on clinical research projects which will lead to relevant publications.

It is expected that shortlisted candidates will be interviewed in April 2026, with the post-holder starting in July 2026.


Main duties of the job

This post is 50:50 split between research and clinical commitments. Successful applicants will contribute to the delivery of both the inpatient and outpatient services, including theatre sessions, ward based care and supporting outpatient clinics, as well as the opportunity to attend regional Multidisciplinary Team meetings (MDTs) and collaborate with clinicians from across the region. There are no Obstetric/General Gynaecology commitments for this post.

The successful candidate will require to take part in a full shift on-call rota alongside other trainees. Details are included in the attached job description.

Person Specification


Skills - Knowledge and Aptitude

* Ability to prioritise workload & use initiative
* Ability to know own limitations & when to seek advice.
* Meet the requirements of the GMC's Good medical Practice
* Knowledge of IT
* Evidence of research developments


QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

* MRCOG part 1
* Valid GMC registration with a licence to practice in the UK.
* Indication of career path
* Progress towards Higher Medical Qualification
* MRCOG or equivalent


Experience

* Experience in formal and informal teaching
* Experience in O&G at senior SHO/ST level
* Evidence of clinical audit
* Colposcopy experience / BSCCP accreditation or equivalent
* Research and Teaching Experience
* Aiming to pursue a career in Gynaecological Oncology


DISPOSITION

* Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary team.
* Commitment to current post


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

* Valid permit / status to remain/work in UK
* Evidence of continuing education and personal development.
