Job Summary

The Speech and Language Therapy Service Manager post holder will be a key member of the Care Group F's Senior Leadership Team and will be accountable for the delivery of the care groups performance, financial, quality, safety, risk and patient experience performance. The post holder will be integral in both shaping and delivering the Care Group's strategy in conjunction with the Trust's overall strategies and objectives.


The Successful Candidate Will

* Work alongside the Therapies senior leadership team and be responsible and accountable for providing comprehensive and robust professional leadership, guidance, advice, support and direction to the Speech andLanguage Therapy profession across their Care Group and the Trust, to ensure that patients are managed and cared for efficiently and effectively.
* Function at a senior level within the leadership team, proactively leading and providing solutions to resolve complex operational issues, in accordance with agreed objectives, targets, quality standards and resource constraints.
* Be part of the Leadership team in the implementation of patient centred clinical operational strategy and plans, ensuring that systems and processes are in place to comply with relevant legislation and governance requirements, linking with external bodies such as commissioners about service developments, contracts and clinical care pathways whilst utilising the expertise and skills of the wider leadership and corporate teams.


Main Duties of the Job

* To have overall responsibility for the promotion of Speech and Language Therapy Services
* To be aware of local and national initiatives and integrate these into clinical practice e.g. Government targets, NICE Guidelines
* To be responsible for writing profession specific policies, guidelines, and Standards of Practice
* To have overall responsibility to ensure the Speech and Language Therapy Operational policy and Standard Operating Procedure is reviewed annually and updated.
* To have overall accountability and responsibility for ensuring that Speech and Language Therapy departmental policies and procedures are reviewed annually and updated.
* To have overall accountability to ensure that all service information leaflets issued to patients and carers have been through the Patient Information Forum and are reviewed and updated as required.
* To have overall accountability for ensuring the Speech and Language Therapy Service complies with Trust anddepartmental policies and procedures.
* To have overall accountability with specific responsibility for ensuring that Speech and Language Therapy staff are aware of Health and Safety legislation and comply with policies relating to the work area, including risk assessment and the prompt recording and reporting of incidents and ‘near misses’. To take necessary precautions to safeguard the welfare and safety of self and others.

Job Description


Job Responsibilities

* To be accountable for the operational management of the Speech and Language Therapy Service, balancing priorities and demands within available financial, staffing, and other resources; ensuring that these remain service led.
* To be accountable for the planning, development, coordination, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of Speech and Language Therapy services in line with the Trust Strategy.
o To be responsible for transformational workforce review and programme ensuring that the workforce within the service meets the needs of the patients/demands within resources available.
o To support the Chief of Division and Divisional Operations Director to immerse the Speech and Language Therapy Service in the business of the Division so that the service is designed to support effective patient care and flow across the Trust.
* To work closely with the other Therapy Services Managers in developing a collaborative model of Therapy provision
* To lead on the development of profession specific business cases and service level agreements (SLA) and contracts for services provided within and outside the Trust by Speech and Language Therapy Staff.
o To contribute to Trust wide business cases where the input of Speech and Language Therapy will provide effective patient care and flow.
o To have accountability for the collection and collation of data and information within the Speech and Language Therapy Service and use this information for operational management and strategic planning.
o To represent the Speech and Language Therapy service within Trust meetings, local CCG meetings, and other appropriate external meetings.


Person Specification


Essential Qualifications

* BSc Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent
* Registration with Health & Care Professions Council


Essential Experience

* Significant Managerial and/or leadership experience
* Experience of managing, reviewing, planning, developing, monitoring services
* Experience of budget management

* Ability to make effective decisions
