The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the M&E sector especially within complex, large‑scale EPC projects, along with exemplary corporate governance expertise and a proven history of strategic leadership.

This is a non‑executive, advisory role requiring a significant commitment to guide the company’s long‑term success, ensure robust governance, and maintain high standards of safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Counsel and Governance Guidance

* Provide expert advice and support to the Board and the Chairman on setting the strategic agenda, focusing on market positioning, growth opportunities, and risk mitigation within the M&E EPC landscape.
* Offer guidance on ensuring the Board’s effectiveness, promoting a culture of informed debate, and constructive challenge to management.
* Advise on upholding the highest standards of corporate governance and ethics, consistent with UK regulatory and industry best practices.
* Contribute to discussions concerning the performance evaluation of the Board and its committees, and high‑level succession planning.

Strategy and Performance Insight

* Collaborate closely with the CEO and Board to shape and critique the company’s long‑term strategy, focusing on profitable growth in key M&E market segments (e.g., data centres, commercial/residential developments, industrial infrastructure).
* Provide independent insight and scrutiny on management’s performance against strategic goals, particularly regarding project delivery, efficiency, and financial health.
* Offer counsel on strengthening risk management systems to address sector‑specific risks, including supply chain volatility, project delays, and complex regulatory compliance.
* Advise on best practices for achieving exceptional Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards, critical for site‑based M&E work.

Stakeholder Relations Advice

* Offer high‑level guidance on managing relationships with shareholders and the investment community.
* Advise the Board on fostering effective relationships with key external stakeholders, including major clients, main contractors, regulators, and government bodies.
* Contribute to the effective communication of the company’s strategy and performance to all stakeholders.

Candidate Profile

Essential Experience and Attributes

* Extensive senior leadership experience at Board level (e.g., Former Chairman, CEO, or highly experienced Non‑Executive Director) within the construction, engineering, or related technical services sectors.
* Deep, demonstrable knowledge of the UK Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) contracting industry is highly preferred, or significant experience in advising on large‑scale EPC/design‑build projects.
* Expert understanding of corporate governance principles, financial oversight, and risk management in a large‑scale contracting environment.
* Proven track record of strategic insight and contributing to sustainable commercial success.
* Exceptional communication, negotiation, and influencing skills essential for advising the Board and engaging diverse external parties.
* Strong commitment to integrity and ethical business practices.

Qualifications

* A degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred), Construction Management, Business, Finance, or a related technical/commercial field is desirable.
* Relevant professional qualifications or governance certifications are beneficial.
