Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Registered with the HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist
2. MSc or equivalent
3. Formal management training
4. Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Scientists
Experience
Essential criteria
5. Minimum of 5 years post graduate experience working in a UKAS accredited laboratory
6. Experience of managing staff effectively
7. Experience of staff recruitment
8. Experience of assessing staff performance
9. Evidence of developing staff by teaching
10. Experience of working across organisational boundaries
11. Evidence of using scientific experience to evaluate new and existing systems and processes to initiate change in practice
12. Experience of clinically assessing current ways of working and introducing efficient and cost-effective practices
13. Experience of understanding planning and project management
14. Understanding and experience of the basics of financial management
15. Experience and understanding of performance indicators such as workload statistics, costings, turnaround times, quality management indicators etc.
16. Experience of liaising with suppliers and users of the service
17. Experience of effectively maintaining laboratory quality management system
18. To continue the learning process through academic or practical experience

35. Able to initiate changes in procedures and policies to induce service development
36. Understand Microbiology and its application on clinical practice and public health
37. Extensive knowledge of quality assurance procedure \ thorough knowledge and understanding of laboratory safety requirements
38. In depth knowledge of common IT software
39. Maintains up to date and in-depth local and national standards and policies and apply them to the laboratory
