Staff Nurse - Head and Neck SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care)
The closing date is 09 November 2025
Our Head and Neck SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care) service has been running successfully for over one year. This provides an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 nurse to support the service. You should be a highly motivated individual with a good understanding of managing capacity and flow, and skills and knowledge in caring for patients on an emergency pathway. Head and Neck (ENT, OMF) experience is desirable, but not essential – training and education will be provided.
The Head and Neck SDEC is a shared space with capacity for 7 patients and 2 treatment rooms. Admissions come from GPs, the Emergency Department, Urgent Treatment Centre, and ENT/OMF hot clinics.
The successful applicant will have at least one year’s experience as a Registered Nurse, be an excellent communicator, and have good knowledge and expertise in managing and caring for acutely unwell patients. You will work clinically with support from the SDEC team (ENT Advanced Nurse Practitioner, OMF clinicians, and Health Care Support Workers), administering prescribed treatments, monitoring clinical conditions, and escalating concerns. You will play a key role in ensuring the Trust’s Internal Professional Standards are met, supporting flow and capacity, and providing patients with a positive emergency care experience.

Working hours: Day shifts (07:30‑20:00) Monday to Friday, with possible weekend and bank holiday duties in the future.
Requirements: Valid UK NMC registration.
Base location: Poole Hospital (the Head and Neck SDEC will move to the RBH site in August 2026).
Interview date: TBC.
