A global ecommerce technology company is seeking an Engineering Leader to take ownership of its engineering function and help drive the next phase of platform growth.
The business has reimagined how brands and shoppers transact across borders, languages, currencies and cultures. Through its global ecommerce platform, it designs, builds, operates and optimises highly localised ecommerce sites for brands expanding into international markets.
This role will lead engineering across Shopify development, integrations and platform engineering, ensuring the company’s technology is scalable, secure and reliable while enabling both client delivery and long-term platform evolution.

🧩 The Role
As Engineering Leader, you will own the engineering function and play a key role in shaping the technical direction of the company’s ecommerce platform.
You will combine people leadership with strong technical oversight, working closely with Product, Client Success and leadership teams to ensure engineering supports both tactical delivery and long-term platform development.
The role involves managing engineers across multiple areas including Shopify development, platform architecture and integrations, while helping scale the organisation’s engineering capabilities as the platform and client base continue to grow.
You will also represent engineering in leadership discussions, ensuring that technical decisions align with product priorities and broader business objectives.
You will lead and develop the engineering team, setting objectives, supporting career growth and building a high-performing engineering culture focused on collaboration, quality and accountability.
The role includes defining and communicating the technical strategy and architecture for the platform, ensuring scalability, security, performance and maintainability across systems and integrations.
You will partner closely with Product, Client Success and operational teams to ensure engineering initiatives are technically feasible and aligned with business needs.
Additional responsibilities include:
* Overseeing platform architecture and technical direction
* Prioritising technical debt and platform improvements
* Coordinating engineering resources across client delivery and platform development
* Supporting cross-functional collaboration across Product, Engineering, Marketing, Content, Operations and Finance
* Ensuring strong governance across release management, monitoring, security and compliance
You will also lead responses to critical technical incidents where required and ensure the platform maintains strong operational reliability.
Candidates should have 8+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years leading engineering teams.
You will have experience building and managing high-performing engineering teams, alongside strong technical expertise in platform development, architecture and modern engineering practices.
Experience within ecommerce, SaaS or retail technology environments will be highly beneficial.
You should also be comfortable operating at both strategic and delivery levels, making technical decisions while remaining close to the engineering process.
Strong communication skills are important, as you will represent engineering at leadership level and collaborate with both technical and commercial stakeholders.
The platform includes Shopify development, ecommerce integrations and cloud-based infrastructure, supported by modern engineering and DevOps practices.
Experience in areas such as:
* API integrations and platform architecture
* Cloud infrastructure
* DevOps practices
* Security and compliance frameworks (e.g. SOC2)
will be beneficial.
