An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 0.4 WTE Band 8a clinical psychology position in the Childrens Dermatology Service. This post is suitable for a Clinical Psychologists or final year Trainee Clinical Psychologists with an interest in clinical health psychology and the impact on children and young people of living with a dermatological condition. The postholder will join the Childrens Dermatology Service at the Nottingham Childrens Hospital (QMC) which provides a comprehensive service for a range of skin conditions experienced by chidren and young people. Children and young people living with skin conditions can experience a range of psychological difficulties (e.g. appearance distress, anxiety, low mood etc). Psychological distress can also exacerbate their physical symptoms. As a psychologist working in the service, you will provide a specialist clinical psychology service for children/young people to help them better manage psychological distress and obtain better treatment outcomes. We would welcome applications from newly qualified psychologists, or 3rd Year Trainees due to qualify in 2023/2024. Main duties of the job The main duties of the role will involve working closely with the multidisciplinary Dermatology Team to offer psychological care to those child and young people with skin conditions. You will work with children, young people and families through consultation with staff, direct work and by attending multidisciplinary clinics. The Dermatology Team comprises of Consultant Dermatologists, a Nurse Consultant, Specialist Nursing Team, Consultant Paediatricians, Specialist Registrars and a Clinical Fellow, and Research Nurses. The team also works closely with other specialist teams in the children’s hospital and with other hospitals in the UK to ensure the most appropriate care for its patients and to work together on research projects. The post holder will be based at: The Children’s Hospital, QMC, Nottingham University Hospital. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist who is interested in expanding their experience in working with children with health problems. It is essential that the post-holder has a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and to be HCPC registered by the time of commencing in post. Working for our organisation The successful applicant will be welcomed to the Department of Clinical Psychology & Neuropsychology within the trust. Currently we are a rapidly expanding service with over 45 Clinical Psychologists working in the department across a number of medical inpatient and outpatient services within the Trust. We have excellent links with the University of Nottingham and regional Clinical Psychology Doctorate Courses. Appropriate clinical supervision will be provided by clinical psychologists working in paediatric clinical psychology medical services. There is lots of scope for career development: from CPD and developing further skills in the specialty and supporting service development and innovation, to the chance to contribute to research in the psychological care for children and young adults with dermatological conditions. Person specification Physical and Other Essential criteria • Ability to move between a number of locations within the hospital in a working day. • Up to date immunisations are required (including TB, HepB) Desirable criteria • Ability to work on days to suit the service Planning and Organisational Essential criteria • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS/HCPC • Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to distressing situations • Ability to identify, and employ, as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice • Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings Desirable criteria • Experience and/or training in the supervision of other psychologists. Analytical and Judgement Essential criteria • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including both quantitative and qualitative methods.
