Pharmacist – 2nd Shift

Shift Overviews
2nd Shift follows a hybrid workflow with the first half of the shift mirroring retail pharmacy and the second half of the shift as a closed‑door mail order facility.
Responsibilities
* 2nd Shift Pharmacists:
o Communicate expectations during start of shift huddle in the absence of a Lead Technician.
o Serve as a resource to technicians in both problem solving and assignment of roles.
o Pre‑check prescriptions before fill to ensure accuracy and appropriateness (PV1).
o Check of filled prescriptions according to legal and professional standards (PV2).
o Provide clear instructions to patients regarding medication use, dosage, and potential side effects.
o Train/mentor new members that join the team and provide regular feedback on performance and expectations.
o Guide staff at end of shift in preparing the facility for shift change to ensure the incoming shift’s team members start their day with a tidy and well‑stocked workspace.
* Administrative Tasks:
o Maintain accurate records of dispensed medications and patient profiles.
o Manage pharmacy inventory, ensuring medications are stored properly and securely.
o Comply with regulatory requirements and pharmacy policies.
o Ensure patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance with healthcare laws.
* Research and Professional Development:
o Stay informed about new drugs, treatments, and medical research.
o Engage in continuing education to maintain licensure and expand clinical knowledge.
o Mentor pharmacy students or residents.
Skills and Qualifications
* Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited pharmacy school.
* Years of Experience: Minimum 1-3 years’ experience as a Staff Pharmacist.
* Licensure: Active pharmacy license in Kentucky in good standing.
* Core competencies include:
o Strong knowledge of pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacotherapy.
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
o Attention to detail and accuracy in medication dispensing and patient counseling.
o Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
o Problem‑solving skills to address medication‑related issues.
o Proficiency in pharmacy software and electronic health records (EHR).
o Commitment to ethical standards and patient safety.
Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation)
* Ability to stand for extended periods.
* Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
* Ability to see, read and interpret hand‑written and faxed materials.
* Manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination.
