About Us:
DM Dale & Co is a family-run, certified organic dairy farm based in the beautiful South Shropshire countryside. We have been farming here for over 25 years, milking a herd of around 300 Friesian x Jersey cows. Our farm supplies the milk for our sister business, Proper Good Dairy, which processes and sells our organic milk locally in reusable glass bottles through vending machines and partner shops across Shropshire and North Herefordshire. We pride ourselves on high standards of animal welfare and sustainable farming practices.
The Role:
We are looking for a motivated and practical individual to join our dedicated team as a General Farm Worker / Maintenance Operative. This is a varied role with a focus on maintaining the farm's infrastructure alongside general farm duties.
Key Responsibilities:
* Undertaking general farm work as required.
* Carrying out essential maintenance, including fencing repairs, building upkeep (e.g., shed repairs, concreting), and yard maintenance.
* Operating tractors and associated machinery for various tasks (experience required).
* Participating in milking duties – all team members contribute to milking the herd.
* Maintaining a clean and tidy work environment.
* Adhering to health and safety protocols and organic standards.
Optional Responsibility:
* For candidates with a keen interest in livestock, there is the potential to take on responsibility for aspects of managing our youngstock.
Working Hours:
* This position can be full-time, but we are also happy to consider applications from individuals seeking part-time or flexible hours, provided there is a commitment to covering some weekend work as part of the team rota. Weekend duties are shared amongst the team.
About You:
* Practical skills in maintenance (fencing, basic building repairs) are essential.
* Competent tractor driving experience.
* Willingness to participate in milking shifts.
* Reliable, hardworking, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
* A positive attitude and enthusiasm for farming.
* Basic maths and literacy skills are required.
* Essential: Full UK driving licence (required due to the multi-site nature of our operations).
* Essential: Must have the existing right to work in the UK. Please note, we are unable to sponsor overseas workers for this position.
* Advantageous: Telehandler certificate (training may be possible for the right candidate).
* Advantageous: UTV (Buggy) certificate.
* Previous dairy farming experience is beneficial but not essential if you have strong maintenance skills and a willingness to learn.
