About the Role
You’ll supervise a team of up to five staff, ensuring high-quality work across tasks such as minor highway construction, patching, drainage works, bridge support, and the installation of highway furniture. You’ll help plan work, organise materials and plant, and drive a culture of safety, performance, and quality on site. The role also includes operating a variety of plant, completing essential paperwork, and supporting winter maintenance when required.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead, motivate and organise a small team.
* Plan and execute highway maintenance tasks.
* Operate plant equipment and maintain safety standards.
* Document work and complete essential paperwork.
* Support winter maintenance duties across Cumbria.
What We’re Looking For (Essential Criteria)
* Full UK driving licence
* Experience in highway maintenance
* Ability to lead, motivate and organise a small team
* Knowledge of highway materials, processes, and safe working practices
* Competent in the use of tools, plant, and equipment
* Strong communication skills and a customer‑focused approach
* Flexibility to work across Cumbria and take part in out‑of‑hours duties
Desirable (Preferred)
* HGV/LGV licence
* CSCS, HIAB, NRSWA, plant operator certification
* Winter maintenance experience
* NVQ Level 2 in Highways or Team Leadership
