Overview
Our Lead Software Engineers are experts in their field, skilled in multiple disciplines, role models in software craftsmanship and have proven experience in the design, development and support of software products. Responsible for defining medium to long term strategies for product lines, defining guidelines for the Engineering community and leading their adoption across teams in order to deliver quality software products. You will lead the design of complex software products that make up citizen services in collaboration with Architecture. There are two teams that successful candidates might join:
Responsibilities
* Lead the design of complex software products that make up citizen services, in collaboration with Architecture.
* Define medium to long term strategies for product lines and guidelines for the Engineering community, and lead adoption across teams to deliver quality software products.
* Lead and mentor engineering teams, guiding technology decisions in partnership with Product and Delivery leads.
* Possible teams: Working Age Services Digital and Digital Payment Services, depending on assignment.
Experience and Qualifications
* An experienced leader with strong influencing skills, able to grasp complex technical concepts and communicate effectively, both written and verbal, to a wide range of non-technical stakeholders. Demonstrates a strategic mindset and experience working with senior leadership in a complex technical environment.
* Experience leading multiple teams and driving changes in technology and ways of working within cross-disciplinary teams.
* Expert knowledge and extensive experience with open-source technologies such as Java, JavaScript and Node.js.
* Expert knowledge and extensive experience developing on cloud-based environments (AWS and Azure), delivering APIs, RESTful services and microservice architectures.
* Extensive experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD).
* Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).

* Hybrid working may be available; normal arrangements require a minimum 60% of contracted hours at the DWP office, with flexibility for disabilities or other circumstances.
Benefits and Salary
* Salary: 75,026 to 92,522, with potential Digital Allowance up to 12,255 for exceptional candidates. Benefits package includes pension, generous leave, financial wellbeing support, health and wellbeing programs, family-friendly policies, and funded learning opportunities.
