TARKA is a fresh new concept and disruptive brand that will revolutionise hostels and create a new category of accommodation in the UK.
The capsule concept is well established in Japan and Asia. TARKA aims to offer an upscale capsule hotel appealing to a diverse clientele, using technology for streamlined operations. It will feature a bar and restaurant based on an Izakaya, offering drinks and simple dishes during the day and evening, along with a Scandinavian-style coffee shop on the ground floor. These outlets will be open to the public.
TARKA’s unique selling points are its sleeping capsules, technology-driven approach, and innovative F&B concept. We seek an outstanding professional familiar with local licensing laws, capable of building strong relationships with authorities to ensure brand standards. The ideal manager understands that delivering memorable service involves more than traditional management. We want someone with a proactive attitude, creative thinking, and a proven track record of providing exceptional service in hotels or hostels, enhancing reputation, and increasing revenue to position TARKA as a leader in the market. Position reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Direct Reports: All hostel staff and third-party suppliers
Location: TARKA Edinburgh, South St Andrews Street, Edinburgh. Some travel may be required.
Hours: Early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.
Main purpose of job: Lead and inspire the hostel team to deliver memorable guest experiences, ensure efficient daily operations, uphold brand standards and legal compliance, and act as an ambassador for TARKA in Edinburgh. Manage the hostel’s P&L, drive growth, and meet KPIs.
Main Accountabilities:
* Collaborate with the TARKA executive team to define the Edinburgh experience, develop operational strategies, and oversee profit centers.
* Manage all aspects of the hostel’s operations, including guest experience, sales, and revenue.
* Oversee budgeting, cash flow, and P&L, focusing on increasing occupancy and F&B revenue through innovative offers and events.
* Maintain budgeted revenue and profit through brand integrity, compliance, outstanding service, and a safe, clean environment.
* Monitor and address building and maintenance issues.
* Foster good relations with the local community.
* Implement company policies and uphold brand and operational standards, leading by example.
* Ensure compliance with fire, health, and safety regulations.
* Induct and train staff to high standards, managing performance and motivating the team.
* Promote a service-oriented culture and lead by example.
* Engage with guests to enhance satisfaction based on feedback.
* Ensure all departments are operational, well-maintained, and aligned with brand standards.
* Support social media and community engagement efforts, capturing content and making recommendations.
* Partner with sales and marketing to optimize revenue through forecasting and rate management.
* Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation, and maintenance.
* Coordinate with third-party suppliers to meet standards.
* Ensure staff are well-trained, briefed, and prepared for emergencies.
* Perform any other duties as assigned.
