Our client is looking for a Wheel Lather Operator to work at a state of the art wagon maintenance facility located near Ipswich train station. They are recruiting for a wheel lathe operator to work on and manage their new wheel lathe. The successful applicant will be responsible for carrying out tyre turning events on locos, wagons, and loose wheelsets.
As Wheel Lathe Operator you will be working on a varied shift with overtime available with a salary of £43,187pa working a 3 on 3 off Days and nights rotation.
Responsibilities of a Wheel Lathe Operator whilst working in the role will include:
- Adhering to health & safety and local safety policy requirements, and other safety and technical standards
- Ensuringcompany engineering standards and procedures are understood, applied, and followed.
- Wheel Lathe Operatoion fortyre turning locos, wagons and loose wheelsets in accordance with approved maintenance plans and standards.
- Ensuring all relevant records for tyre turning are correctly completed to company standards
- Maintaining high standards of housekeeping whilst having an ability to identify and reduce hazards to ensure a clean and safe environment is maintained whilst carrying out your duties.
- Carry basic preventive maintenance on the wheel lathe,
Requirements for the role
- At least 3 years broadly based experience of an Engineering background, including machining, meticulous record keeping and working to tight tolerances.
- An appreciation of mechanical maintenance activities and a willingness to learn.
- Preferably apprentice trained or equivalent and have experience in mechanical maintenance
