Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Machinist to join Instron's Machine Shop team, based in High Wycombe. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe machining of components to the drawing specification requirements. The purpose of the role is to meet the key tasks and responsibilities to the best standard possible and in line with our KPI's.
Responsibilities
Machine components from drawings, programs and printouts as requested. This may include the programming (where applicable), prove-out and running of the machines, on a regular basis.
To ensure machines work to their optimum effectiveness, following the defined manufacturing process.
Ensure quality checks are made in line with business requirements and fulfill any documentation in respect of this.
To ensure the maintenance logs are maintained and maintenance requirements are thoroughly carried out according to the requirements of the machines you operate.
All machine breakdowns are notified and recorded however minor as laid out in procedures.
To always be flexible and support un-manned machining.
To be supportive and participate in all activities initiated by production engineering or the manufacturing management team.
To maintain a 'clean' operating environment, that the machine, the area around the machine and your work benches and kept tidy and clean. Ensure that associated work areas are a safe working environment with the emphasis on safe working practices including housekeeping.
To be fully aware of the requirements of our Health & Safety procedures, Safety procedures, COSHH assessments and ensure they are being adhered to. Promote a safe working environment with the emphasis on:
Safe working practices including tidiness and housekeeping
Safe use of regularly maintained material handling and lifting equipment
Recognition and ability to deal with hazards and hazardous materials.
Aware of COSHH regulations and abide by them.
To undertake duties as required by the Machine Shop Supervision.
To highlight training needs as deemed necessary to fulfill the job role.
To ensure all product and administration disciplines are met, in line with our ISO Quality Standard.
To recommend process changes to ensure continuous improvement.
Skills And Competencies
To promote continuous improvement with a view to:
i) Improving quality
ii) Effective Multiple machine operation (MMO)
iii) Reducing manufacturing set and run times.
iii) Reducing lead times and communicating any changes.
iv) Promote Health and Safety, highlight concerns and recommend improvements.
v) On-going risk assessment and machine safe (SAF) working procedures.
The person should have the following behaviours and traits: Good team-working skills, flexibility, good communication skills verbal and written, high integrity and a self-starter with a good work ethic.
Qualifications
Machining Apprenticeship or similar time served machining experience.
Min. 5 years experience working with conventional or CNC machine tools.
Formal Engineering qualification. Min. City and Guilds or similar.
