Job Advert

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role:

The Paediatric Liaison Psychiatry Team is a specialist multi-disciplinary team including psychiatry, clinical psychology, nursing, and systemic psychotherapy. They provide mental health and neuropsychiatric assessments, interventions, and consultations for children and young people in both inpatient and outpatient settings at Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC) hospitals, as well as for regional and national paediatric services.

The team operates at Tiers 3 and 4, addressing acute mental health concerns in under-18s from 9am–5pm on weekdays. They see patients with physical or neuropsychiatric conditions causing significant psychological or behavioural difficulties, including medically unexplained symptoms, chronic pain, and fatigue syndromes, which affect engagement with treatment or pose risks to the child.

They also consult with clinical teams regarding parents/carers with mental health issues or complex family dynamics affecting care.

The team works collaboratively with paediatric staff to integrate mental health into routine care, promoting equal attention to psychological and physical well-being. Care is evidence-based, patient-centered, and respects confidentiality. Each child/young person has a Case Manager to develop therapeutic relationships and ensure high-quality specialist care.
