Area Sales Representative

An opportunity for an experienced Area Sales Representative to join our sales team.


Owen Taylor & Sons Ltd – Catering Butchers

Field-Based Role | Reporting to the Sales and HR Manager (Managing Director in their absence)

Role Summary

The Sales Representative will be responsible for developing new business opportunities and maintaining strong relationships with existing customers. The role requires a professional, customer-focused individual capable of managing accounts, identifying growth opportunities, and representing the company in a competitive market.


Working Hours

* Monday to Friday: 8:30am – 5:00pm
* Saturdays (1 in 8), working as Duty Manager for the shift, in line with business requirements

Flexibility will be required to meet customer and operational needs, including occasional meetings outside normal working hours.


Key Responsibilities

* Meet and onboard new customers as required
* Maintain regular and consistent contact with existing customers, both in person and by telephone
* Understand customer requirements and ensure their needs are reasonably met
* Target new and existing customers to drive sales growth
* Agree sales terms including pricing, contract details, and payment schedules in line with company policies
* Take customer orders and process them through the sales office or the in-house SOP system
* Create and deliver presentations to promote new and existing products and special offers when required
* Advise customers on delivery schedules and after‑sales services
* Monitor market conditions, economic factors, and competitor activity
* Report sales trends, opportunities, and risks to management as required
* Escalate customer issues promptly and professionally
* Provide assistance in other areas of the business when required
* Attend meetings outside of normal working hours when business or customer needs dictate
* Ensure the company vehicle is maintained in a legal, clean, and roadworthy condition at all times


Skills and Experience

* Proven experience in a sales role; experience within foodservice, catering, or meat industry is advantageous
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills
* Commercial awareness with the ability to discuss pricing and contractual terms confidently
* Well‑organised, self‑motivated, and able to manage workload independently
* Competent in using sales systems and reporting tools
* Full UK driving licence
