Colorectal Cancer Nurse Specialist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Colorectal Specialist Nurse to join the colorectal nursing team within DHUGS Collaborative. South Tees NHS Foundation Trust are committed to learning and education. We have a dedicated team through our academic centre (STRIVE) for your Continuous Professional Development.
The Colorectal Nursing team is an integral provision within the Digestive Health, Urology and General Surgery Services Collaborative and provide support to patients and their families who have a colorectal cancer diagnosis.
The speciality is focused on high quality patient centred care, ensuring that the patient is supported continuously through diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care.
The team within this service work efficiently and effectively to support patients and their families through their colorectal cancer journey.
The colorectal nursing team is part of the wider cancer nursing service alongside working with other services both within the organisation and externally.
The strategic goals of the team are centred on a positive patient journey and experience which is pivotal in minimising risk and reducing harm. The colorectal nursing team are high performing and deliver organisational requirements of a well‑led service.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a talented, motivated professional senior nurse who has colorectal experience and can demonstrate strong leadership and managerial skills within this clinical setting.
In this role you will be pivotal in leading the team in the delivery of enhanced holistic services and standards of care to our patients aligned to the South Tees Accreditation for Quality of Care (STAQC) principles.
As an integral part of the managerial team you will be expected to demonstrate exceptionally diverse communication skills, and have an aptitude for people management and the profession.

Person Specification
* Specialist qualification in cancer care/stoma care or willingness to undertake
* Teaching qualification or equivalent experience
* Advanced communication skills course or willingness to undertake
* Clinical skills qualification or willingness to undertake
* Registered nurse with associated degree
* Willingness to study at advanced level/masters
* Leadership and management qualification
* Quality Improvement training
* Prescribing
* Counselling course or certificate
Experience
* Substantial experience at senior grade within a colorectal or cancer setting
* Experience in managing change
* Current teaching experience
* Experience of implementing protocols and guidelines
* Understanding and experience of service improvement
* Experience of working within a busy clinical environment and within multidisciplinary teams.
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Evidence of further study within field of expertise or willingness to undertake further training where appropriate
* Experience in supporting and managing for those with cancer
* Experience of working in the Colorectal specialty or related specialties

Knowledge & Skills
* Expert level of knowledge of colorectal cancer management and care of those undergoing major colorectal resection, including stoma care
* Knowledge of strategic issues which influence area of practice at a local, regional, and national level

* Knowledge of the Clinical Governance agenda and NHS Plan
* Knowledge about the development of the specialist nurse role in a modern NHS
