Revenues Officer

Responsibilities
* Meet individual and team targets in the delivery of the Revenues Service, including Council Tax billing and recovery, NNDR (including BIDs and HBOP recovery) as agreed in the annual appraisal process.
* Manage a specific case load with autonomy as part of the teams operation.
* Provide expert technical advice to customers by telephone, written correspondence or face‑to‑face, accurately maintaining customer accounts.
* Investigate inquiries, request further information from customers, internal and external departments, and relevant stakeholders; record findings in databases and communicate outcomes in plain English.
* Identify and take proactive action on revenue cases with potential entitlement to discounts, exemptions or liability reductions.
* Apply agreed procedures and legislation correctly, treating all enquiries politely and professionally while remaining customer‑focused.
* Maximise debt recovery by taking appropriate actions on debtor accounts, in line with working procedures and council policies.
* Manage Attachment of Benefit and Attachment of Earnings Order cases, ensuring correct allocation of payments on receipt.
* Handle cases referred to bailiffs and other collection agencies, informing them of changes to liability and ensuring correct payment allocation.
* Recommend and process write‑offs in compliance with council policy and procedure.
* Prepare and manage cases for committal action, winding up, bankruptcy and other court or charging orders; liaise with the Council’s Legal Team as required.
* Provide debt counselling, benefit and welfare advice, directing debtors to other agencies for additional help when appropriate.
* Understand and support the Council’s Anti‑Poverty Policy, Corporate Debt Reduction Policy and Financial Inclusion Policy in individual cases.
* Recover Housing Benefits overpayments where applicable.
Qualifications / Experience
* Revenues Officer: 3 years (mandatory).
* OR15861: 1 year (preferred).
