Purpose of Position
The Art & Design program in the School of the Arts (SOTA) at Northern Kentucky University (NKU) invites applications for a part-time instructor in Drawing.

The Drawing area at NKU offers an approach to artmaking which is media diverse and emphasizes both technical skills and conceptual development. Additionally, the Drawing area aligns with the Painting area, offers strong support to the Animation area, and is a core foundational support for all Art & Design disciplines. We seek a dynamic artist-teacher that possesses strong observational and perceptual abilities in drawing that can teach all levels of drawing, including figure drawing. The Art & Design program offers BA and BFA degrees in Studio Art. The position will begin in the fall of 2024. We are seeking a dedicated educator-scholar to teach in our dynamic, profession-oriented program. A successful candidate should be knowledgeable and proficient in observational object drawing, figure drawing, all contexts of linear perspective, and be able to converse in and with a variety of contemporary methods of current drawing fine art practice.

The Art & Design, Music, and Theatre & Dance programs make up the School of the Arts which sits in the College of Arts and Sciences at Northern Kentucky University. Art & Design offers an innovative and engaged opportunity for aspiring artists and designers who seek professional training in the arts. Art & Design has 17 full-time faculty and 4 full-time staff that embrace a comprehensive hands-on approach of working with materials and techniques while developing critical thinking skills related to the various art disciplines and studio training.

Primary Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of this position are to teach drawing courses at the foundational levels (ARTD 210), and when needed teach figure drawing (ARTD310), advanced drawing (ARTD 410), and possibly drawing for animation (ARTD 317). Additionally, to maintain and work within the set curriculum of our course offerings as we encourage exploration of diversity through our topics courses and collaboration across the campus and region.


Additional responsibilities include some student mentoring, responsible studio management, and provide direction and guidance for advancing the University's strategic priorities of inclusive excellence, student retention, and graduation. The drawing studio (FAC 415) is located in the Fine Arts Center that includes state of the art lighting, natural north lit ceiling windows, ample room space, drawing chair/desks, figure model stand, large still life closet, and overhead screen and projector.



Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include an MFA in Drawing/Painting or its equivalent, an active professional creative practice in drawing/painting, a demonstrated knowledge of drawing techniques, and well versed in contemporary / historical practice. Demonstrated commitment and/or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds and cross-cultural perspectives. The position includes possible opportunities to shape curricula and be part of a team of committed colleagues and dedicated students.


College-level teaching experience preferred.
