The Junior Apprenticeship Programme is a part of 14–16 provision delivered within a compulsory education framework. Learners remain on the roll of their home school and attend College as part of a statutory programme. As such, this role differs from standard post-16 FE delivery and carries enhanced responsibilities in relation to safeguarding, behaviour, attendance and engagement. Learners will typically attend in small cohorts of up to fifteen and may include young people who are disengaged from mainstream schooling or who require a highly structured, consistent and supportive learning environment. The postholder will therefore be expected to adopt trauma-informed, restorative and inclusive approaches to teaching and behaviour management. The Lecturer for Junior Apprenticeships in Construction will deliver high-quality vocational teaching and assessment, acting as a positive role model for young learners and supporting their progression into further education, apprenticeships or employment. The role sits within a wider Junior Apprenticeship team, working closely with a Junior Apprenticeship Coach who provides day-to-day in-class pastoral support, break-time supervision and work placement organisation. Key Responsibilities Deliver teaching and assessment for a designated E3/L1 vocational qualification suitable for 14-16 learners in line with awarding body and College requirements Plan and deliver structured, engaging lessons that promote attendance, participation and positive behaviour Prepare high-quality teaching, learning and assessment materials appropriate to learners Undertake assessment, recording and tracking of learner progress using College systems Contribute to internal verification and quality assurance processes Ensure that all teaching spaces and practical activities comply with health and safety and safeguarding requirements Work closely with the Junior Apprenticeship Coach in order to actively embed employability skills, professional behaviours and workplace expectations across teaching and assessment, ensuring clear alignment with learners’ work experience placements Establish consistent and proactive communication with schools, parents and carers to support recruitment activity and to jointly monitor learner progress, behaviour and attendance, ensuring early intervention where concerns are identified Organise and carry out educational visits and trips, in full compliance with the College’s Educational Visits Policy, that enrich the curriculum, extend learning beyond the classroom Support learners to plan clear progression routes into apprenticeships, Jobs Growth Wales opportunities or further study, working collaboratively with curriculum teams, employers and progression services Skills Knowledge and Expertise Welsh Language Requirements: Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 3/4 Essential Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 3/4 Essential. Essential Criteria: Relevant degree or equivalent Higher Education/Advanced qualification Teaching qualification GCSE English and Mathetmatics at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent Documented evidence of appropriate Professional Development Experience of teaching 14-16 learners Experience of vocational or work-based teaching and learning Understanding of 14-16 provision Experience of working with learners with behavioural or engagement needs Good literacy and numeracy skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels both orally and in writing Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills Ability to work harmoniously with learners and colleagues Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines Excellent punctuality and ability to work flexibly A current driving licence and use of a car Willingness to drive a college minibus Willingness to engage in Junior Apprenticeship training Desirable Criteria: Awareness of key performance indicators Evidence of innovative teaching and learning activities Evidence of effective tracking and monitoring of learner performance Experience of actively participating in the pastoral care of young people Sound understanding of digital literacy Willingness to contribute to develop extra-curricular activities Benefits You will receive 27.6 days holiday, plus bank holidays and five closure days which totals at 40.6 days holiday per year.
