About the Role
We’re looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Lawyer / Solicitor to join our specialist crime and regulatory team in Leeds. Working closely with Lead Lawyer David Chant, you’ll play a key role in handling complex health & safety, and serious motor matters—often from the very outset of an incident through to resolution.

What You’ll Be Doing:
In this varied and hands‑on role, you will:
* Analyse prosecution evidence and assess its implications for clients
* Draft witness statements and review client evidence
* Collate, organise, and summarise case materials for senior lawyers
* Liaise with courts, coroners, regulators (HSE, CQC, Police) and external experts
* Prepare and serve defence case statements, sentencing and mitigation bundles
* Draft submissions and support case strategy development
* Attend interviews under caution, inquests, and trials alongside Counsel
* Conduct legal and regulatory research (including HSE guidelines)
* Review medical records, post‑mortem reports, transcripts and CCTV evidence
* Coordinate meetings, site visits, and expert appointments
* Support clients sensitively in often challenging and high‑pressure situations
What we're looking for:
* Qualified Solicitor with NQ – 4 years PQE in ideally one or more of the following specialisms:
o Health & Safety
o Regulatory
o Inquests
o Traffic Commissioner
o Serious Motor
* Highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities
* Detail-focused and confident working with case management systems
* A strong communicator, able to build rapport with clients and stakeholders at all levels
* Calm, resilient and professional under pressure
* A collaborative team player with a proactive, flexible approach
* Sensitive and empathetic in dealing with clients facing difficult circumstances
* Confident in your written work, research, and IT skills
