Senior Specialist Speech & Language Therapist required in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, England. Responsibilities
* Provide highly specialist assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based intervention for individuals with complex communication and/or swallowing disorders.
* Manage a defined caseload with a high degree of autonomy, prioritising clinical need.
* Develop and implement individualised therapy plans, monitor progress, and adjust as appropriate.
* Advise and support families, carers, and other professionals on communication and swallowing strategies.
* Utilise a range of specialist therapeutic approaches and augmentative communication systems where appropriate.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records in line with HCPC, RCSLT, and local policies.
* Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and training for junior SLTs, assistants, and students.
* Contribute to service development and quality improvement projects.
* Support the clinical lead in implementing policies, procedures, and service priorities.
* Participate in audit, research, and outcome measurement to inform practice and service delivery.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including medical, nursing, therapy, and educational staff.
* Provide specialist reports for education, health, and social care planning.
* Deliver training sessions to staff, parents, and partner organisations to enhance understanding of communication and swallowing needs.
* Act as a point of contact for complex case discussions.
* Maintain HCPC registration and RCSLT membership.
* Engage in continuing professional development to maintain and extend specialist knowledge.
* Adhere to NHS and organisational safeguarding policies and contribute to safeguarding processes.
* Represent the service at internal and external meetings.
Qualifications and requirements
* HCPC registration and RCSLT membership.
* Extensive experience in specialist assessment and intervention for complex communication and swallowing disorders.
* Ability to manage a defined caseload with autonomy and clinical judgment.
* Commitment to continuing professional development and staying current with best practice.
* Experience in supervision, mentorship, and training of junior staff, assistants, and students is desirable.
* Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures; ability to contribute to safeguarding processes.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills for multidisciplinary teams and families.
