An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinically focused and motivated pharmacist to join the clinical pharmacy team at Raigmore Hospital. This post will be based within the Surgical, Women & Children team. This includes rotations in general surgery & surgical admissions, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, critical care, anaesthetics, maternity, paediatrics & neonates. There will also be opportunities to gain clinical experience in other areas such as microbiology, renal and medical high dependency unit. The range of specialties offers a diverse experience, whilst at the same time gaining specialist knowledge and skills. You will work across the different sub-specialties, with rotations being agreed to suit your training and development needs as well as the service demands. Supervision, training and support will be available from the lead pharmacists within the area and other members of the pharmacy team; no prior experience in these clinical areas is required.

The successful candidate will assist with the training and development of pharmacy students, trainee and junior pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians. Clinical pharmacy technicians are embedded within the team and we are also looking at opportunities for pharmacy support workers to play a valuable role within their overall skill set. The team are also involved in education and training of the wider MDT, including medical students and medical/nursing staff.

Development opportunities will be available, in the form of quality improvements projects and audit, and participation in governance groups such as sub-groups of the Area Drug and Therapeutics Committee. There will also be opportunities to participate in peri-operative clinics and lead in areas such as sustainability, acute pain and theatres.

Candidates should be good communicators; enthusiastic; self-motivated; a strong team player; curious and excited to learn; and be able to problem solve and prioritise. You will be a registered pharmacist with a Masters Degree in Pharmacy and relevant post-registration experience. Post-graduate qualifications including a Diploma/MSc in Clinical Pharmacy and Independent Prescribing are desirable, but we would facilitate the right candidate to achieve these within the role. As a department, education is a priority and we are also committed to our pharmacists becoming credentialed at RPS Core Advanced level and will provide support to help achieve this.

We would welcome applications from pharmacists within all sectors of pharmacy, as this role would offer the opportunity to build on transferable skills. This is an exciting time to join our friendly and supportive pharmacy team, as we work towards transforming the way we approach patient care. As well as developing the clinical roles of pharmacy support staff, we have implemented HEPMA across most of our hospital sites in NHS Highland, and have installed robotics in both our dispensary and distribution services, improving patient safety and efficiency.

Inverness offers the perfect balance of city-living whilst having the beauty and ruggedness of the Highlands on your doorstep, allowing for a healthy work-life balance. Raigmore Hospital is a welcoming, supportive and collaborative environment to work in, and you will quickly get to know and feel part of the wider hospital team.

You will be required to work in the emergency on-call, weekend working and public holiday rotas.
