Job Overview
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Yard Operative / Forklift Driver to join a busy industrial yard operation based in the Ampthill area.
This is a hands-on role working within a fast-paced environment involving the movement, sorting, and handling of heavy materials. The ideal candidate will have previous experience operating forklifts, working with industrial machinery, and ideally some exposure to crane operations.
You will play a key part in ensuring the safe and efficient running of yard operations while maintaining high standards of health & safety at all times.
Key Responsibilities
* Safely operate forklift trucks to load, unload, and move materials around the yard
* Assist with the sorting and processing of materials within an industrial yard setting
* Support crane operations where required (experience preferred)
* Carry out daily equipment checks and report any faults or issues
* Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment
* Support general yard duties including manual handling and material movement
* Follow all health & safety procedures and company policies
* Work closely with supervisors to ensure smooth day-to-day operations
* Assist with loading and unloading of vehicles and deliveries
Requirements
* Previous experience working in a yard, industrial, construction, or similar environment
* Valid forklift licence (Counterbalance essential)
* Experience operating or working alongside cranes (advantageous)
* Strong understanding of health & safety procedures
* Ability to carry out manual handling tasks safely
* Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team
* Good communication skills and a proactive attitude
Desirable
* CPCS or NPORS crane qualification
* Banksman / Slinger Signaller certification
* Experience in recycling, aggregates, or metal handling environments
* First Aid qualification
