Job Overview
These Acute Medicine position is to support the increased expansion and development of our Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) and Acute Medical Units (AMU - McGill) at Royal Hampshire County Hospital (RHCH).
We envisage that the successful candidate will be working in the Acute Medical Unit, thereby providing a wide breadth of acute medicine experience in this consultant‑led area.
This post offers an excellent opportunity to strengthen your clinical acumen, diagnostic and practical skills in acute medicine, with real‑time consultant feedback and supervision. It also provides a chance for candidates to develop their teaching experience by dedicating time to run AMU teaching, simulate training, mock paces, regular paces exams, medical student programmed teaching, and virtual on‑call training.

Acute medicine consultants are fully committed to a teaching programme, and appointees receive supervision similar to formal trainees, including clinical, pastoral support and portfolio guidance. Successful candidates are encouraged to participate in quality improvement projects, weekly AMU teaching, medical grand rounds, mortality and morbidity meetings, and the completion of the MRCP exam.
Responsibilities
* Patient assessment: Clerk and post‑take administration; writing in patient notes
* Undertake patient reviews
* Promptly update patient systems
* Attend clinics (Acute Medicine)
* Attend Multi‑Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings
* Facilitate daily board round with MDT
* Triage to medical teams / acute physicians as appropriate
* Participate in ward rounds
* Liaise with patient families to discuss patient progress, goals and achievable outcomes
* Liaise with patients respecting their right to make decisions about treatment, care and discharge destination
