Work Experience Programme - Engineering: Ground Software. Our Work Experience offers School and College Students the chance to spend one week, working alongside our experienced industry professionals to gain insight into Space Engineering at SSTL, while developing new skills for the future.

Who can apply
Students in Years 10 to 13 who have an interest in Space Industry opportunities in the UK. No prior knowledge or experience in engineering is required; a keen interest is desirable.
What you will do
* Explore the world of ground software and how it supports every stage of a satellite mission.
* Learn about key systems such as Mission Planning, Image Processing and Communication Software.
* Gain hands-on experience with SSTL’s Mission Planning System, including independent exploration and user-testing of the interface.
* Understand the daily role of a ground software engineer and how programming languages (C++, Java, Python) are used on real projects.
* Be introduced to Agile software development and how teams plan, collaborate and solve problems in day-to-day activities.
Notes on eligibility
SSTL does not expect applicants to have prior knowledge or previous engineering experience; a keen interest in this direction is desirable. Due to the high number of applicants, we are unable to accept applications from students who have previously completed the programme.
Location
Head office in Guildford. Monday to Friday schedule. Onsite facilities include free parking, secure bike lock, shuttle bus from Guildford town centre and train station, card-only canteen, and ample tea and coffee stations.
