Sister/Charge Nurse Intensive Care Unit (ICU) – Band 6. Join to apply for the Sister/Charge Nurse Intensive Care Unit (ICU) role at Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust.
The ICU team are dedicated to providing care for critically ill patients across medical and surgical specialties. The unit is brand-new and purpose-built with ceiling-mounted pendants and positive/negative pressure side rooms to maximise safety for staff and patients. There is an excellent development programme for all ICU staff.
As Sister/Charge Nurse you will work clinically within the multidisciplinary team, maintain high standards of practice, provide clinical leadership and decision making, and support staff on a shift-by-shift basis.
You need to be an enthusiastic and integral member of our team, providing and supervising the delivery of excellent patient care. You will offer effective clinical leadership and management of the ICU team and manage your time by prioritising and organising your workload.
We are seeking individuals with current personal development, a good understanding of patient safety and risk reduction, and commitment to developing others and supporting colleagues.
Responsibilities
* The post holder is responsible for assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for critically ill adults in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team. They will act as an effective clinical role model.
* Use specialist knowledge from relevant post-registration courses in caring for critically ill adults.
* Maintain a safe clinical environment conducive to patient care.
* Develop leadership skills and experience in management within the Intensive Care Unit.
* Promote and participate in the implementation of the RUH Nursing strategy.
* Develop and implement Audit, Quality and Risk Management initiatives.
* Review nursing practice and implement changes based on research/best practice.
* Participate in clinical supervision programmes and act as facilitator/mentor/preceptor to nursing or non-nursing staff.
To be designated to manage the Intensive Care Unit and/or act as a deputy to the person holding continuing responsibility; develop leadership skills in ward/department management.
Qualifications and Skills
Essential
* Current registration with NMC
* Evidence of significant post-registration study specifically related to Intensive Care
* Experienced critical care nurse with extensive critical care nursing experience
* Evidence of completion of Step 1, 2 and 3 national competency framework for adult critical care nurses
Desirable
* Mentorship course
* Management and leadership training
* ILS/ALS certification
* Paediatric critical care qualification and clinical experience or willingness to undertake relevant study
* Completion of Step 4 national competency framework for adult critical care nurses
Skills
* Significant experience within a critical care setting
Additional
* Further management insights such as change management, conflict resolution, and budget awareness are desirable.
