Job Description
Canon is one of the world’s most innovative companies and a global IP superpower. While Canon is rightly renowned as a world leader in camera and printer technologies, it is also so much more. Canon is a contributor to digital technology standards (including video coding and telecoms), has a thriving network video systems business, innovates in the field of connected vehicles, and is pioneering the use of AI applied to imaging technologies.
Here at Canon Europe the patents team works directly with our European inventors and our colleagues at the global IP headquarters in Japan to provide a full range of patent services across Europe.

At Canon you will have the opportunity to see how patents are really used by a global technology company, make a real difference and contribute directly to the success of Canon’s businesses.
We welcome applications from part‑ or fully‑qualified patent attorneys with a proven track record of excellence and the drive to complement the abilities of our existing team. Some knowledge or experience of patenting technology standards is preferred but not essential for the role.

* Work with patent engineers at CINC’s IP HQ in Japan to coordinate prosecution strategies in the UK and Europe.
* Support our group companies such as Milestone (network video software solutions), NT‑ware (cloud print solutions) and IRIS (OCR technologies).
This work is wide ranging and can include everything from invention harvesting, through patent drafting and prosecution, to freedom to operate, licensing and enforcement. It may also include assisting with the handling of negotiations and disputes with third parties.
Qualifications
* Minimum of a university degree in a technical subject.
* Fully qualified or finals standard European and UK patent attorney.
* Relevant working experience as a patent engineer or attorney, for example in a private practice or an in‑house patent department.
* Experience or interest in digital standards and/or standard‑essential patents work would be advantageous.
